Role Summary As QA Automation Lead, you'll drive the transformation of our quality assurance practices while leading a distributed QA team. In your first 100 days, you'll establish automation standards and frameworks using Playwright that will scale across our entire technology stack—from consumer mobile apps to franchise management systems. This hands-on leadership role combines strategic thinking with daily coding, as you'll personally contribute to automation development while mentoring your team and collaborating closely with engineering and product teams. Job Title: QA Automation Lead Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid) Salary Range: $90k-$105k annual We are seeking candidates who are authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship Key Responsibilities Establish Automation Framework: Design and implement comprehensive test automation standards using Playwright, creating scalable frameworks for web, mobile, and API testing across our technology stack Hands-on Development: Write, maintain, and optimize automated test scripts while contributing 60-70% of your time to direct coding and technical implementation Sprint Integration & Accountability: Drive QA excellence within Agile sprints by establishing testing timelines, quality gates, and sprint-specific QA processes that ensure testing never becomes a bottleneck to delivery QA Thought Leadership: Champion quality-first thinking across engineering teams, advocating for testability in design decisions, and ensuring QA considerations are embedded throughout the development lifecycle rather than treated as an afterthought Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a distributed QA team, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and professional development while fostering collaboration across time zones Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering, product, and DevOps teams to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines  Process Documentation: Create comprehensive testing documentation, standards, and best practices that can be adopted across multiple development teams and technology platforms Requirements 5+ years of QA/Test Automation experience with at least 2 years in a leadership or mentoring capacity Expert-level Playwright proficiency with demonstrated experience building automation frameworks from scratch Strong programming/scripting skills in one or more languages like JavaScript/ TypeScript, Python, or Go Quality Assurance Expertise including manual, unit, integration, regression, UAT, performance, and automated testing methods Non-Functional Testing experience covering performance, load, stress, security, accessibility, and usability testing Mobile app testing experience, including manual and automated testing for Android and iOS applications using tools like Appium, Detox, or XCUITest, with deployment and distribution via TestFlight, Google Play, and the Apple App Store Cross-Browser & Cross-Platform Testing to ensure consistent functionality and user experience across different browsers and devices CI/CD Integration Experience to integrate automated tests into pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions Database validation skills querying and validating data from SQL and NoSQL databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB or MongoDB Agile/Scrum expertise with proven ability to integrate QA processes seamlessly into sprint cycles and development workflows Leadership experience managing distributed teams, including remote/nearshore collaboration and cross-timezone coordination Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience Preferred Qualifications Healthcare or regulated industry experience with understanding of compliance and data security considerations Testing microservices and event-driven systems by validating APIs, message queues and using contract testing to ensure reliable service communication. Exposure to data analytics tools and frameworks to derive testing insights and monitor application quality. End-to-End testing for SaaS products, including scalability, reliability, and user experience validation. Testing ecosystem experience with tools like Jira, TestRail, K6, JMeter, and Playwright's advanced features Knowledge of Container orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, particularly in the context of automated QA pipelines.
