The Assistant Director (Sous Chef) will join our Promise Academy Kitchen team that works to transform how the community engages with food—by improving our nutrition environment and thinking more sustainably about what we eat through hands-on nutrition education in the garden and the kitchen, in the classroom, and in the boardroom. So, join us as we create a community of educated eaters.  The Executive Sous Chef is responsible for assisting the Executive Chef with overall kitchen operation, ensuring maximum guest satisfaction through planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the Kitchen operation and administration. Exhibits culinary talents by personally performing tasks while assisting in leading, coaching, and developing the team and managing all food-related functions. Requirements Culinary Diploma from a recognized institution or higher Valid NYC DOH Food Protection Certificate Who You Are Minimum 5 years of large-volume cooking experience along with 5 years of managerial experience or 8 or more years in a food service environment Ability to work within a team environment while demonstrating excellent customer service Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills Must be knowledgeable and willing to comply with the Health Department and other governmental agency regulations Knowledge of CACFP and NSLP guidelines and requirements Must have extensive knowledge of food preparation and production for volume cooking Must have Equipment knowledge and the ability to educate team members regarding the equipment and versatility What You'll Do Able to make recommendations to the Executive Chef regarding succession planning Create training and professional development for teams Communicate with management to ensure the Promise Academy Kitchens are operating successfully Ensure that all recipes and product yields are accurately produced and reviewed regularly Ensure that all food items are prepared as per standard recipes whilst maintaining portion control and minimizing waste Ensure that food stock levels within the culinary department are of sufficient quantity and quality relevant to function forecasts Creating work schedules and conducting team meetings Schedule Monday-Friday Time: 6:00 AM- 2:30 PM Benefits As a member of the Harlem Children's Zone team, you will join a supportive and inclusive community dedicated to helping children, families — and our staff — thrive. The Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) is a private non-profit organization that provides services in response to the needs of rural, low-income households and communities. MRDC serves as Caroline, Cecil, Harford and Kent Counties’ official Community Action Agency. The Bus Monitor’s primary responsibility is ensures the safe and orderly transportation of children enrolled in the Head Start program. They assist the bus driver in maintaining a secure and nurturing environment for young children while traveling to and from school and program-related activities. The Bus Monitor supports children in boarding and exiting the bus, manages behavior, and ensures compliance with all safety regulations.
