1979 VW Super Beetle Convertible - Karmann Edition Last year the Super Beetle was made, and this unique Karmann Edition was only made on just over 10k units between ’71-’79. Here’s the skinny, this 79 BUG has been in the family for almost 15 years now I think, it was the dream car/bucket list car of my mom, whom in her day cross country toured the US in the VW Bus with her college buddies. So years later and full circle her dream materialized with this car here. It was only driven for fun in the summers, for trips to Fairhaven, or Chuckanut for an Oyster run, and then parked in the garage all winter. The car was babied, here a few of the things done to it: (also have complete records for maintenance, service, and improvements) New brakes and bearings New Fuel lines New Throttle Cable and Tube Full Engine tune up New Muffler Electronic Ignition Upgrade Fuel Injection & Running adjustments New Battery New Vinyl (replaced all seats) New Seat Belts And more! The top is in perfect condition, the inside liner (which is white) is perfect condition. The paint is in great condidtion, it’s a purple with shiny flake almost depending on when you’re looking at it anyhow the sun hits it. Very minimal rust - the hub caps and rear bumper now have rust blooms, but other than that car looks great! This car has always started right up and driven great without issue all the years my mom had it, BUT a year, to a year and half ago, she had to park it and wasn’t able to drive it, so it sat. NOW - its having some issues at 25/30mph - I replaced the fuel filter after discussing with mechanic friends and VW Bug forums online, once I did this the car fired right up everytime, but at 25/30 mph its like its choking for not enough fuel….. POSSIBLIITIES: Again after speaking with multiple mechanics and VW specialists and of course back to the VW forums here’s what they’re thinking - NEEDS A NEW FUEL TANK, and lines running up to the fuel filter, and then replacing the fuel filter again.. After almost 45 years the fuel tanks of these apparently don’t age that well, so there’s probably more debris going into the fuel filter and clogging it up. Prior to it sitting for a year, year and half there were never any issues driving, it has always run great, so this is a new challenge to us. - [ ] CAR IS SOLD “AS-IS” NOW FOR $7500 - as we have no desire to try and spend time and money fixing it, but we recognize that there needs to be a tune up and at least a new fuel tank ($150-$250) and lines/fuel filter ($30-50ish) and looking at how these are priced now a days, this is a more then fair deal where everyone is happy. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
