A non-profit engineering society located in Mountain View is seeking a mature, reliable, self-motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented candidate to work in a small, professional office environment. Some of the requirements include: • 4-year college degree from a U.S. university or college • Fluent spoken and written English • Formal English-editing experience • Good working knowledge of web navigation, e-mail, various file formats • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat • Working knowledge of WordPress and/or HTML a plus • Typing speed of 55 WPM or better Some of the duties for the society operation include: • Supporting Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief with various administrative tasks • Working independently as well as with other staff • Communicating with authors, editors, peer reviewers, and Society members (advanced degree holders) • Copy editing and some web editing • Helping to organize conferences, prepare conference/symposium programs, and publish conference/symposium publications • Processing orders and sales of Society publications • Data entry and maintenance of database files We are a non-profit scientific, educational organization under IRS code 501(c)(3). We work with scientists and engineers from over 50 countries. For more than 40 years we have organized and held large, successful annual conferences and biennial symposia alternating between North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. We publish a quarterly technical journal and conference/symposium proceedings of peer-reviewed papers. Experience with scholarly publications, including proofreading and editing, is a plus but not required. Some understanding of cultural diversity (e.g., Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Slavic) can be helpful but not required. The position is part-time to begin with (approximately 4–6 hours per day with flexible hours) and can lead to a full-time position. • Compensation depends on qualifications.
