Oversee Petting Zoo, ensuring guests understand picking techniques and orchard guidelines. Engage with visitors in the activity yard, assisting with farm-themed games, educational stations, and seasonal activities. Staff the farmers market and farm retail shop, helping customers select fresh produce, baked goods, coffee, and gifts. Handle sales transactions accurately using a point-of-sale system. Maintain a clean and welcoming environment in all customer areas. Restock and organize inventory, including produce, farm products, and retail items. Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and enhancing the overall farm experience. Work as part of a team to ensure smooth daily operations and an enjoyable atmosphere. Requirements Strong multitasker with willingness to adapt to a variety of roles. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-facing role with enthusiasm and energy. Ability to stand for long periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Willingness to learn about farm operations and share knowledge with guests. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working on a farm, in a market, or in a hospitality service role. Passion for farming, local food, and hospitality. Experience working with students in school settings. Familiarity with apple orchards, farming, or local agriculture. POS system experience. Join our thriving organic farm in Haiku, Hawaii, dedicated to sustainable practices and the cultivation of nutrient-rich soil and animal welfare. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated entry-level farm worker who has a passion and love for animals, including black soldier fly larvae (BSF) and a commitment to organic farming methods. BSF do not bite or eat food. When they hatch from larvae, they spend their time reproducing.  Here at Hale Akua Garden Farm, we also raise chickens, ducks, fish and goats . We also grow moringa, Tongan spinach, ketuk and Tumeric as well as other crops. We also grow plenty of bananas, citrus, sour sop, surinam cherries , poha berries and other fruit.  - Adherence and willingness to learn current farm SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) - Assist in the cultivation and breeding of black soldier fly larvae.  - Tracking Data collection of BSFL harvests, feeding, and breeding for facility R&D purposes.  - Participate in composting activities, ensuring proper management of organic materials.  - Perform hands-on farm labor, including forking, planting, harvesting, weeding, and maintaining various crops.  - Help with daily farm operations and tasks as assigned by the farm manager or relevant supervisor.  - Monitor and care for BSF colonies and broods, ensuring optimal conditions for growth and reproduction.  - Collaborate with team members to promote healthy ecosystems and sustainable practices.  -Involvement with our fish, chicken and goats is also possible if you want to expand your hours.    Requirements - Previous experience with insect cultivation, especially black soldier fly larvae, is highly desired.  - Comfort and familiarity with composting processes and organic waste management.  - A genuine love for insects and a willingness to learn more about their role in agriculture.  - Desire and passion for organic agriculture and closed loop systems, and a drive to create a farming environment in which livestock, garden, and insects work symbiotically.  - Basic computer skills, ability to input data into an iPad/Computer - Strong physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.  - Team player with good communication skills and a positive attitude.  - Interest in sustainable agriculture and organic farming practices. At Hidden Valley Orchards, we strive to create a family friendly agritourism experience. In 2025, the farm team will be planting and caring for over 2,000 apple trees, a market garden, u-pick pumpkins, a crop maze, livestock, grapes, and more. We will assist with projects around the farm as needed and generally be available to the larger agritourism operation as needed (i.e., hay wagon rides, lawn and garden care, etc.). We are seeking farm hands for the main farming season from August to November with the potential to extend the role in the future. Key Responsibilities Assist with daily livestock chores for small groups of animals Help with planting, pruning, irrigating, fertilizing, and cultivating of apple trees and grape vines Assist with a 1/2 acre market garden; weeding, harvesting, cultivating, tilling, fertilizing, etc. Assist with some observation bee hives Work with the larger agritourism operation on select days when extra hands are needed (i.e., hayrides, facilities care, unloading produce, maintaining food displays, etc.) Help with cultivating, planting, and harvesting of u-pick pumpkins and flowers and a crop maze Assist with fence and irrigation system building and maintenance Work with the team on other crops or agricultural ventures should they arise during the season. Required Qualifications Able to lift 50 lbs and work in all types of weather conditions with proper gear Willingness to learn new skills such as tractor driving, animal care, gardening, etc. Ability to work 8 hour days of manual labor alone or with others Ability to work independently and in a team setting Experience working with your hands in an outdoor environment Preferred Qualifications A desire to consider farming as a career path, with an interest in apples Some experience working on a farm or with tractors Unique talents that can benefit the farm (i.e., mechanical skills, irrigation, animal care, construction, etc.) Evidence of a good academic record and some positive work experience Reporting Structure & Company Culture Report directly to the Farm Manager and be available to assist the General Manager should help be required Hidden Valley Orchards farm team is hardworking, professional in its demeanor, curious, honest, friendly, customer focused, and caring in nature towards the land and animals.  Benefits Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
