'96 Land Rover Discovery 1- Overlander Project or Stock Classic? - $3,800 (scotts valley)

1996 Land Rover Discovery 1 SE7 Clean title 97630 original miles 4.0 GEMS V8 Full time 4WD with solid front and rear axles Manual locking differential New tires Totally stock without any aftermarket mods (except for the radio) Only cosmetic rust, no rot anywhere. Frame is straight and solid No sunroof leaks, sealed years ago (if ya know ya know) Heater works Electric windows work Bluetooth aftermarket stereo with aux jack Still has the two jumper seats in the way back And yes, I took the pics after a rinse cause it makes it look way better! Paint is faded but no dents or scratches. These original Discovery’s are off-road beasts! (If ya know ya know). This one has a fully operational locking diff and it will take some serious abuse, even in its stock configuration. But give a lift and a few inexpensive suspension upgrades that I was planning on doing and you have something really special! This classic was my daily driver for a couple years. Starts and runs like a champ….in WA state where I bought it in a county that has no smog requirements. When I moved back to CA I drove it all the way down from the San Juan Islands. Almost 1000 miles! When I got here it was my daily driver for 6 months until the tags were going to expire in February. It passed the CA safety inspection at the DMV…but didn’t pass smog. I took it to Specialized Auto here in Santa Cruz which is a very reputable shop. They said it needed a replacement O2 sensor and a camshaft position sensor according to the codes. That’s $300 in parts. Will it pass smog with just those parts? Hard to say. I can share the entire write-up form the thorough diagnostic they did. I wanted to keep this is a project. It’s a really solid platform. I put lots of parts in it over the couple years I’ve owned it. Starter Battery Tires Water pump Break pads Rear passenger bearing Plug and wires Kept up with oil changes I’ve got a bunch of other parts in a box as well: Valve cover gaskets (not because they leak), full transmission service kit (never got to that one but transmission has no issues). It’s got plenty of little quality of life things that don’t work but all the basics work. Starts, runs, breaks, locks, heater, lights, wipers, radio, etc.. The stuff that doesn’t work I’ve never tried to fix. Asking $3800 OBO Come take a look! Thanks for reading!
