$16,400 / Offer. This 1969 Volkswagen Beetle was converted to a ‘Baja Bug’ by a previous owner and is an absolute blast to drive. The original car was Savannah Beige and the Baja bodywork was finished in the same Savannah Beige to match. The ‘bugeye’ bodywork relocates the headlights inboard, and here they’re paired with an extra set of auxiliary lamps just near the sideview mirrors. The Baja Bug conversion involves changing the front, rear, and sides of the Bug to give it more ground clearance and reduce weight to rip through the dunes. This bug has it’s original 1600 4-cylinder motor and 4-speed gearbox. However the intake manifolds and carburetor have been upgraded with a larger and newer carburetor (EMPI 38EGAS). It has larger Bilstien shocks which lift the bug about 2” and new 15” wheels with Yokohama Geolander tires adding about 3” of ride height. The wheels are 15” BRM five-lugs from EMPI which emulate the Porsche Fuchs style. The vehicle has been upgraded to disc brakes at all four corners. The seats in the front seem to have been replaced, and reupholstered together with the rear bench. There are five seatbelts (2 front, 3 back). The wiring is clean and professionally done, with the Bug having been built by a West Coast Beetle Club President. Has a retro skate-wheel for the throttle pedal. Would be a blast to take to OBX and ride the sand up near Carova / Corolla. It’ll do OK on the highway; the speedometer suggests it can do 70mph but it’s quick and fun around town as well. Clear VA title. It doesn’t have heat or AC. A few spots of surface oxidization but no rot due to rust that I’ve found. Bodywork has a few dents and flaws but that doesn’t seem to stop it from snaping necks around town. Located in Falls Church.
