We are a rotating group of musician friends looking to add more musicians into the mix: people who are interested in jamming, improvising (not playing covers). Its similar to the jazz approach but we're not playing jazz (we're not good enough to play jazz). Heavily influenced by psych rock and world music (Africa, Brazil, Middle East, polyrhythms, etc). We take the "yes, and" approach: someone starts playing something and others add on to it, improvise our way into a groove, and see where the song goes from there. Its experimental, groovy, and there are no wrong notes (except please dont just shred on blues scales, we're not looking to sound like this https://youtu.be/ZaM6lTmhnak?si=E18oaBTG-w8Ozhdn&t=147 We have a rehearsal space where we play weekly. Not looking to start a rock band. Gigging is a possibility if we can get our shit together, but otherwise we do it for the love of music and the fun of the hangout. We have all been playing in bands for decades, and listen to all kinds of music, we have pretty good chops and constantly rotate instruments depending on what we're feeling. We are not professional musicians and cannot read music but we are pretty adept at our instruments. More than anything its a fun hang, we like to have a good time, sober people are always welcome as long as you're ok with us not being sober. Hopefully you've heard of at least half of the artists below. If so, please reply with some of your music and info about who you are, what you are into, what you play, etc. Influences: Can, grateful dead, mk.gee, fela kuti, panda bear, alex g, staple singers, van morrison, dub, beach boys, arthur russell, curtis mayfield, kraftwerk, dungen, james brown, prince, mdou moctar, the blue nile, talk talk, emahoy tsege mariam gebru, derya yildirim, sault, nilufer yanya, tom waits, orchestra baobab, alice coltrane, joni mitchell, sly stone. guitarist guitar drums drummer bass bassist keyboard keyboardist synth saxophone
