Coffee Roaster / Forklift Operator America's Best Beverage Location: Oakland, CA Job Type: Full-time Compensation: $21-23/hour, DOE Reports to: Plant Operations Supervisor ________________________________________ Overview The Coffee Roaster plays a central role in our production team, ensuring every batch of coffee is roasted to exacting quality standards while supporting smooth warehouse operations. This position may also serve in a hybrid capacity as both Roaster and Forklift Operator, depending on the needs of the business. The role requires flexibility, as schedules may vary and will include openness to shift changes and occasional weekend shifts. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-minded, and passionate about coffee, with the ability to move fluidly between roasting, quality control, green coffee handling, and warehouse responsibilities. This position combines technical roasting expertise with the physical capabilities required to operate forklifts, manage inventory, and support production flow, making it a dynamic and vital part of our operations. ________________________________________ Responsibilities: Roasting & Quality Control • Roast coffee according to established sensory profiles, blends, and daily production schedules. • Maintain accurate roast logs and QC reports. • Roast and blend coffee according to company and customer specifications. • Follow and adjust roasting profiles to maintain consistency. • Ensure the roasting schedule runs efficiently, accurately, and on time. • Maintain a clean and organized work area. Green Coffee & Production Support • Assist with green coffee receiving, storage, and staging. • Weigh, portion, and prepare green coffee according to production recipes. • Maintain green and roasted coffee inventory records. • Label and document all roasted coffee using bin tags, roast logs, and software tools. • Occasionally assist with grinding and packaging of roasted coffee. Forklift & Warehouse Operations • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment (certification provided if needed). • Load/unload deliveries and organize warehouse storage. • Ensure adherence to food safety and warehouse safety protocols. Equipment & Maintenance • Perform daily and weekly cleaning of roasting machines and production areas. • Conduct routine preventative maintenance on roasters and warehouse equipment. • Notify management of any mechanical or safety issues. Other • Support cross-functional projects as assigned. • Contribute to a clean, safe, and organized work environment. ________________________________________ Qualifications • Experience: 1+ years of specialty coffee roasting preferred; warehouse or forklift operation experience a must. • Skills: o Ability to maintain focus and accuracy under pressure. o Logical, methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving. o Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with a team. • Other Requirements: o Forklift certification. o Knowledge of food safety standards and GMPs preferred. o Proficiency with Excel, Google Sheets or other production management tools a plus. o Passion for coffee and a commitment to quality. o Must be proficient in speaking and writing English. Though abated with abatement equipment, coffee smoke does exist in the warehouse and at times may be heavier than normal conditions.
