Description

Summary of Position: The Host is primarily responsible for greeting and seating guests in coordination with the service staff to ensure a smooth and efficient dining experience. Additional duties include issuing menus, managing to-go orders, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the dining room, overseeing the wait list, and, if applicable, managing reservations. The Host is expected to professionally represent the hotel and contribute to creating a welcoming and positive guest experience. Key Responsibilities: o Greet guests promptly, professionally, and with a warm demeanor o Seat guests according to seating chart and guest preferences, providing clean and accurate menus o Monitor restaurant sections to ensure seating flow is balanced o Coordinate with the Front Desk for room charge accuracy and billing instructions o Manage guest waitlists, provide accurate wait times, and communicate updates as needed o Ensure dining areas are clean, well-organized, and prepared for service o Assist with special guest requests such as highchairs, accessibility needs, or celebrations o Communicate with servers and kitchen staff regarding large groups or special circumstances o Maintain reservation systems, ensuring smooth communication between the kitchen and dining areas o Assist in handling guest complaints or inquiries, escalating issues to management when necessary o Follow opening and closing procedures in the absence of a Restaurant Manager o Assist with setting up the dining area for special events or large parties o Exhibit good personal hygiene and maintain a professional appearance throughout the shift o Perform other duties as directed by management Minimum Education o High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred Minimum Experience o One year restaurant host/hostess experience preferred o Food Handler’s Card certification required o TAP Card may be required depending on location Skills/Abilities o Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills o Demonstrates integrity, honesty, and a cooperative attitude o Professional appearance and a polite, positive demeanor o Excellent reasoning and problem-solving abilities o Strong teamwork skills and a genuine desire to serve people o Proficient in accurately scheduling reservations and providing assistance to guests Benefits o Competitive union hourly wage plus tips o Eligible employees can have access to comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, and dental o Eligible employees can have access to a pension fund after a year o Eligible employees can be provided with a uniform o 401(k) retirement savings plan to secure your future o Opportunities for professional growth and advancement within the hotel o Work in a supportive and dynamic environment that fosters professional and personal development Application Process Interested candidates can apply online or apply in person at the Hotel Captain Cook HR office. Must be able to work efficiently without needing immediate supervision from management and work well with others.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as organizational skills.  Must have basic mathematical skills and an understanding of weights and measures.  Able to follow recipes. Food Handlers certification required. The ability to work in a fast-paced high pressure work environment while executing delegated tasks and assignments. Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays. Knife skills, presentation skills and culinary/sanitation knowledge. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry moderate weight.
