Position Summary The Safety Director plans and coordinates health and safety program in area of responsibility by analyzing, updating and controlling work processes and supporting leadership with safety awareness and tools to reduce occupational hazards and diseases by performing the following duties. Position Duties Develop and implements program and policies for under-performing locations to improve all safety metrics. Support division, region, and branch managements to ensure consistent development, implementation and execution of safety strategies at field locations. Perform corporate safety audits at each location, including field safety reviews. Develop strategies for reducing collisions and injuries. Develop accountability mechanisms for branches and regions to ensure safety accountability at all levels in area of responsibility. Analyze safety metrics and trends to develop recommendations for solutions to improve results of key performance indicators. Provide guidance and technical support for management and safety teams to ensure compliance with any applicable regulations or laws. Serve as a secondary point of contact for field management for inquiries, questions or needs related to internal safety, security, and loss prevention. Review business operations and safety trends and make recommendations to reduce costs and manage risks. Provide leadership and direction to the operating managers regarding collision or workers' compensation investigations, reporting processes, regulatory compliance and follow-up corrective action and preventative measures. Conduct investigation of more serious work-related accidents or illnesses. Manage any external audit process by a regulatory agency governing matters of employee occupational health, safety and security. Coordinate communication with any outside regulatory agencies where needed. Identify, report and provide solutions to the division regarding employee safety programs, regulatory compliance, security breaches and employee health issues. Implement or recommend control measures for exposure to hazardous materials or conditions. Assist with development of educational and training materials for associates including "red flag" training when there is an immediate need resulting from an occurrence. Direct workers engaged in field and laboratory verification of compliance with health regulations. Provide technical guidance to management, labor organizations, government agencies, and civic groups regarding health related problems and correct use of protective clothing or accessories. Monitor the company's health standards in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Develop and implements a program and system to track and evaluate worker injuries for analyses. Maintain working knowledge of new developments in the industry and government regulations. May facilitate training for workers or train-the-trainers on issues related to health and safety. Requirements Education:     Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Position Summary Plan, implement and supervise project safety in accordance with Federal, State, and local Health and Safety regulations, and Environment (HSE) regulations, site safety and corporate policies. Perform jobsite inspections, review safety related paperwork, and ensure the scope of the pre task plan matches the scope of the daily work and current operations to verify jobsite compliance. Interview employees to see if they are adequately trained and have the necessary tools and PPE required for the tasks being performed, verify all equipment inspections are done by employees using equipment. Ensure field operations are in compliance with Current OSHA regulations, Murray Company Policies and Owners or General Contractor’s rules as specified by contract. Assist with training as needed for the projects specifically to ensure all employees on site have the required training needed discuss upcoming training needs with the project team and assist in scheduling classes. Train crew members in personal fall arrest/ restraint systems, scissors lift operations, powered industrial truck operation, personal protective equipment, power tool safety, confined space entry, and any other safety training required by corporate policy. Conduct daily jobsite safety and Pre task audits required by contract. Assist in updating the certification Training Data Base to ensure all training classes are updated and records are available for employees onsite. Inspect all rigging while on the jobsite to ensure all is safe for use. Assist with accident and incident, near miss investigation for the jobsites and develop safety alerts as a result thereof. Ensure there is a root cause analysis performed and develop mitigation methods when necessary. Foremen and superintendents are to write reports but assistance may be needed when investigating and finding the route cause. Provide appropriate documentation to the Corporate Safety Department and GC once approved. Accompany any injured worker throughout any medical treatment that may be necessary to ensure the employee gets proper care and that the injury/care is properly managed. Ensure appropriate management of work-related injuries and proper care for injured employees. Develop and implement procedures to eliminate hazards and situations as those discovered through lessons learned and investigations from prior incidents. Recommend corrective actions and/or disciplinary procedures for violations of HSE rules, procedures. Review and record all required job site safety documentation created by foreman to ensure compliance corporate policy. Coach and correct when needed. Assist in new hire orientation as needed. Conduct work area surveillance inspections and air sampling tests for welding operations as needed for specific work. Build and maintain strong relationships with Project Managers to drive positive change. Assist Safety Department and project team as needed for specific safety related items.
