Hello, my husband was out gathering his hunting gear near Frying Pan Lake/Jug Lake Trail (north of white pass) when he and my two GSDs were attacked by an elk this past Sunday. He and my other dog were hurt, but fine. However, the family dog Sam (female 2.5 yr old GSD) ran away frightened. We lost her about 5ish miles in on the soda springs horse camp trail up past jug lake to frying pan lake. Roughly here: 46.723198, -121.423549 Sunday 06/22 around 16:30 We just adopted her in October and we've only just begun training her out in the backcountry/wilderness - she really has zero survival skills thus far and is more or less my daughters' lap dog. He didn't expect to come up on anything out there (30+ years hiking/camping in the PNW and this is a first!) and we are all devastated. She is not microchipped. After he hiked back down and was able to contact me, I met him at soda springs and we set up familiar items & food at the bottom of the soda springs trailheads (both horse camp & the pay site) hiked back in late Sunday night after midnight, made it up to the meadow at Frying Pan around 4am Mon 06/23 waited until light out around 6a to head back down and unfortunately no sign in or out and no evidence she showed up at/around our vehicles at the trailheads. We then checked White pass area trail outlets, around hwy 123 & up north down bumping lake area & deep creek road all to no avail. We can’t find any trace of her despite calling & searching for nearly 24 hours. Please, if anyone comes across a scared german shepherd try to coax her to you. She will likely be nervous, but is very friendly and not at all aggressive despite likely barking at other animals due to anxiety. Any and all info would be amazing. Thank you. We desperately hope she finds her way home safe!
