Single Pitch Rock Instructor - Frenchman Coulee, Vant (Ellensburg)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Single Pitch Rock Instructor to guide climbing trips at Frenchman Coulee, Vantage, WA. The ideal candidate is passionate about rock climbing, experienced in single-pitch guiding, and available to work most weekends. This role involves leading clients on safe, enjoyable, and educational climbing experiences in one of Washington’s premier climbing destinations. Responsibilities Lead single-pitch rock climbing trips for clients of varying skill levels, from beginners to intermediate climbers. Provide instruction on climbing techniques, safety protocols, and equipment use. Ensure client safety by assessing conditions, managing risks, and maintaining proper climbing and belaying standards. Set up and inspect climbing anchors, ropes, and other equipment. Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all clients. Share knowledge about the local area, including climbing routes, geology, and environmental stewardship. Handle emergency situations calmly and effectively, following established safety protocols. Maintain equipment and report any damage or wear to management. Qualifications AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) certification or equivalent (preferred). Minimum of 2 years of rock climbing experience, with proficiency in single-pitch climbing and anchor systems. Strong knowledge of climbing routes at Frenchman Coulee, Vantage, or similar desert basalt climbing areas. Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification (preferred). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and teach clients effectively. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in dynamic outdoor environments. Reliable transportation to and from Frenchman Coulee, Vantage, WA. Availability to work most weekends (Saturday and Sunday) during the climbing season (March–October). Commitment to Leave No Trace principles and environmental conservation. Compensation Pay: $200 per day Additional: Tips from clients Schedule Part-time, primarily weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Occasional weekday guiding opportunities may be available. Flexible scheduling based on client bookings and weather conditions.
