Applications submitted without a cover letter may not be reviewed.** Job Purpose: The Senior Accountant at Greater Spokane Inc. (GSI) plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization. This position requires expertise in non-profit accounting, compliance, and financial management, including oversight of financial systems, internal controls, reporting, and strategic planning. The Senior Accountant works closely with the CEO, Leadership Team, Finance and Administration Committee, and the Executive Board to support sound financial decision-making and ensure alignment with GSI’s mission and goals. Essential Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential responsibilities listed below. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Accounting Operations Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger, subledgers, and chart of accounts, including: Record deposits, cash receipts, disbursements, payroll, accounts receivable/payable, and account reconciliations. Prepare monthly and annual journal entries, adjustments, and necessary customer/vendor corrections. Import transactions from third-party systems. Monitor monthly revenue tracking and cash flow reporting. Provide guidance on the financial implications of grants, contracts, and restricted funds Financial Reporting & Compliance Prepare and deliver routine and ad hoc analysis to support leadership decision-making, the Financial and Administration Committee, and the Executive Board. Support the preparation and submission of tax returns and Form 990, ensuring accuracy and compliance with non-profit tax regulations. Lead external audit preparation and manage audit-related deliverables. Ensure compliance with GAAP, non-profit accounting standards, and federal, state, and local regulations. Implement and monitor internal controls to minimize risk. Create and maintain process documentation. Budgeting & Strategic Financial Planning Assist in the annual budgeting process and financial goal setting with department leads. Develop and support strategic financial plans aligned with GSI’s organizational goals. Provide financial insights and analysis to guide decision making. Continuously evaluate financial processes for efficiency and effectiveness. Relationship Management Develop and maintain strong relationships with financial partners (banks, vendors, brokers). Developing and maintaining relationships with GSI’s Board and members to improve investor engagement. Organizational Culture & Strategic Engagement Contribute to an organizational culture of teamwork, support, engagement, and empowerment. Provide strategic input on issues affecting the organization. Work with colleagues to discover and develop ways to retain, grow, and better align and leverage GSI resources for greater impact. Communicate the mission of GSI to personal and professional networks. Regularly evaluate GSI’s systems and processes for continuous improvement. Direct the collection, organization, and presentation of key data in relation to GSI’s strategic plan and goals. Regular, Full-time, Exempt $85,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications Requirements Knowledge & Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job: Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intaact) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Excellent communications skills with the ability to translate financial concepts for non-financial stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Experience managing budgets, grants, and working with cross-functional teams. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA, CMA, or other advanced certifications are preferred; equivalent experience in non-profit financial leadership will be considered.  Significant experience in financial management, preferably in a nonprofit environment. Nonprofit accounting experience is highly valued and may be considered in lieu of formal certifications or specific year thresholds. Certificates and Licenses: Valid driver’s license required. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.  Frequently required to travel to local events, meetings or training by car; may also occasionally travel out of the area for meetings or training opportunities by car or air. Regularly scheduled to work 40 hours per week; frequently required to work more than 40 hours per week to meet deadlines, finish assignments, or attend events and meetings. Physical Requirements: Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility with or to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time and operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine motor coordination including use of a computer keyboard with or without accommodations, Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist. Occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25 lbs. Regularly utilize verbal and written communication to exchange information. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
