Position Summary: The Cell Leader in the Paint Department for 1st shift plays a key role in ensuring that the production cell operates efficiently and safely, meeting its delivery commitments and maintaining high standards of product quality in accordance with the production schedule. This position involves providing leadership and guidance to team members while promoting effective communication and positive employee relations within the cell. What You Will Do: Support all company safety initiatives by conducting regular safety audits, enforcing safety policies, providing training on safe work practices, and submitting necessary reports. Facilitate Operational Excellence (OPEX) through consistent 5S audits, maintaining housekeeping standards, and coordinating continuous improvement initiatives. Oversee the quality of cell output by leading self-inspection processes, managing materials through MRB reviews, and ensuring availability of tools and resources for first-time quality assurance. Lead daily cell meetings focused on achieving production goals, presenting results, and implementing corrective actions based on performance metrics. Address personnel issues promptly by conducting daily Toolbox talks, managing employee reviews, and maintaining attendance records while collaborating with Human Resources as needed. Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement, ensuring compliance and understanding your role in the grievance process. Requirements Skills and Experience: Possession of three to five years of previous supervisory experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is highly preferred, demonstrating a solid foundation in leadership and team management. Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, which are crucial for enhancing production efficiency, reducing waste, and improving overall operational processes. Outstanding interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment where all team members feel valued and engaged. Attention to detail and excellent organizational prowess are necessary for maintaining high standards within the production cell, ensuring that all processes are executed flawlessly and efficiently. Professional demeanor and confidentiality in all employee interactions, which are vital in building trust and maintaining a respectful workplace atmosphere. Proficiency in computer systems and tools relevant to manufacturing processes, enabling effective data management and enhancing production capabilities. Ability to mentor and lead teams effectively, providing guidance and support while maintaining composure under pressure, which is crucial for navigating the demands of a dynamic manufacturing setting. Work Schedule: 1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday Rotating Weekend Coverage every 6 weekends (additional $300/day for weekend shifts) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develops and leads a cross-functional/departmental team to address day-to-day operational issues and reach short and long-term performance goals Builds people capability through effective employee relations, hiring, training, and communication for UAW hourly personnel Motivates team members to achieve plan goals by maintaining a regular presence on the shop floor Utilizes continuous improvement, visual daily management, and the corrective action process to drive sustainable improvements in manufacturing Manages employee relations issues and communicates with the union Communicates and follows through with Operations Managers, Value Stream Managers, and Human Resources Manager Sets, tracks, and achieves performance standards regarding safety, productivity, and quality Manages key performance indicators and helps set stretch targets for the team Reviews time cards using ADP E-time for accurate reporting Manages assigned work and utilizes SAP to look up work order statuses Must have experience with MRP systems Requirements Education and Experience Requirements High School diploma or equivalent; college or technical schooling preferred Machining experience (metal removal, mills, lathes, grinding, heat treat, etc.) Experience in Lean Manufacturing Union experience and the ability to handle union contractual matters Demonstrated ability to de-escalate conflict in a union environment Strong understanding of machining techniques and blueprint reading Team-building and strong interpersonal skills Strong computer and problem-solving skills Ability to be accountable for themselves and others Experience with timekeeping for an hourly workforce with overtime capabilities This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
