Description

For Sale: 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 – 5-Speed Manual – 217K Miles – $3,000 or Best Offer Selling my well-maintained 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 with a 4.0L V6 engine and 5-speed manual transmission. I've owned this truck since 2014 and have consistently maintained and upgraded it to keep it running strong. I have owned the truck for 11 yrs as my daily driver. the truck has had approximately $15,000 in replacement parts and labor most of which have been done in the last few years. This is not a pretty truck! It is a strong well running truck! Maintenance Highlights: • Regular oil changes every 2,000–3,000 miles (often earlier than required) and all other necessary maintenance performed at the recommended service intervals. • Shortly after purchase: upper and lower control arms and other front-end components replaced, followed by an alignment. • August 2016: front brake pads, rotors, and left front hub bearing replaced. • December 2017: installed 4 new BF Goodrich 31.5x10.5 R15 AT TA KO2 tires (still have plenty of tread, not abused), replaced rack and pinion, sway bar link, and performed another alignment. • Cooling system serviced and thermostat replaced. • Both headlight assemblies replaced. Due to oxygenation. • January 2020: IAC valve and valve cover gasket replaced. • June 2020: full brake job front and rear — new front rotors and pads, new rear drums, shoes, and a wheel cylinder. • October 2020: previous battery replaced (updated again in 2023). • November 2020: right front hub replaced; discovered vacuum system issue affecting 4x4 auto-lock hubs. Manual locking hubs installed as a fix. 4x4 engages, but has not been fully tested under heavy use since. Recommend future buyer inspect or repair the vacuum system if desired. • August 2021: replaced the clutch, flywheel, and slave cylinder. Refreshed part of the exhaust system with a spring and bolt kit. • March 2023: new battery installed. • August 2023: replaced #3 fuel injector with new injector seals, intake gasket, exhaust manifold, spark plugs, and ignition wires. • July 2024: replaced windshield right wiper transmission assembly, wiper arms, and installed new wipers. • August 2024: replaced radiator cap, HVAC blend door, AC evaporator, and performed coolant refill. • June 2025: replaced battery Known Issues: • The AC system evaporator and the AC control blend door are brand new. The AC compressor is the only part that hasn’t been replaced there is a very slow leak the compressor need to be replaced. At this time the AC needs to be re-charged. • The check engine light is on. My mechanic has scanned it and it is a bad O2 sensor. • 4x4 system: There is a vacuum system issue affecting the auto-lock hubs. Manual Warn locking hubs were installed as a temporary fix. The 4WD system engages, but it has not been fully tested under heavy stress or off-road conditions. Recommend having the vacuum system repaired/replaced for full on the fly 4x4 functionality. • Differentials: The truck has open differentials front and rear. For better off-road performance and traction, I recommend upgrading to Detroit Truetrac limited-slip differentials (front and rear). A local gear shop on Hercules Avenue can provide a rebuild/installation quote. The truck is due for a differential rebuild regardless. • Parking Brake: The parking brake cable has stretched, and the mechanism that tightens the cable is broken. The entire parking brake system will need to be replaced, which is roughly a $1,500 repair. However, since the truck is a manual, it won’t roll as long as you leave it in gear. • Shocks: The truck's shocks are still functional but are near the end of their life. They should be replaced before any serious off-road use to ensure optimal performance. • Rear Leaf Springs: The bushings on the rear leaf springs need to be replaced. There is a shop in Tampa, Tampa Spring, that can remove the old bushings, press in new ones, and re-arch the springs for about $500. • Interior: The interior is in rough shape. The lumbar support on the driver's seat is broken, and the seat back adjustment lever on the passenger seat is also broken. The carpet is faded and stained and could use replacing. All plastics are in good shape except for the plastic frame around the radio and heat/AC controls, which needs to be replaced due to the cigarette lighter receptacle breaking from behind. • Paint: The paint is faded on the hood and roof. • Fiberglass Cap: The truck comes with a Century fiberglass cap. The gel coat has cracked and peeled, but the fiberglass itself is still intact. • Dents: The truck has a large dent on the passenger side door and the extended cab does not interfere with the operation of the door or the lock. Additionally, there are two large dents on the sides of the pickup body, behind the brake light assemblies. • Handle/Locks: The handle/locks for the extended cab need to be replaced. Other Notes: • Tires have lots of tread left, manual transmission shifts smooth, 4WD engages, and AC blows cold. No Oil or fluid leaks and the truck doesn’t burn oil. • Receipts available for nearly all listed repairs (except for the initial replacement of the upper and lower control arms). Mileage is 217,000. Clean title in hand. Asking $3,000 Firm Call or text I’m Scott I don’t do long text conversations for more info or to schedule a time to see it. We can either have a messenger call or phone call. thanks
