POSITION OVERVIEW St. Catherine's School is accepting applications for a Transportation Manager. Applicants with Class A or Class B CDL (with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements) with a minimum of five years' experience are preferred. Responsibilities include overseeing the safe and efficient transportation of students, managing bus routes, schedules, and maintenance, while also ensuring compliance with safety regulations and supervising staff. Maintaining assigned buses in a safe, clean, professional manner is a must. Employment is subject to successful background check and driver physical evaluation. Supervisor: Chief Operating Officer Supervisory Responsibilities: Transportation Department Position Status: Salary, exempt, full-time, regular, 12-month Hours of Work: Standard work week. Evening and weekend work may be required. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Route and Schedule Management: Establish and revise bus routes and schedules, coordinate transportation activities with school officials, and develop route maps Coordinate with department heads and others regarding regular and special events/sports transportation needs and field trips – to include scheduling Charters as needed Mandatory 40 hours of driving time required annually Driving a school bus over assigned routes in emergency situations Vehicle Management: Oversee vehicle maintenance, ensuring timely repairs and inspections, and managing the purchase of necessary equipment. Staff Management: Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate bus drivers, dispatchers, and other transportation personnel Approve employee work shifts, overtime, vacation, sick leave coverage and related Review and approve time sheets on schedule for payroll Conducts informal counseling on work issues, and prepares documentation and recommends discipline and improvement plans for deficiencies Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations, conduct safety training, and investigate accidents or incidents Budget Management: In partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, prepare the draft transportation budget, purchase supplies and materials, monitor expenditures, and ensure efficient use of resources Communication and Collaboration: Interact with parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders to address concerns, resolve issues, and improve transportation services Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of routes, schedules, maintenance, training, and other relevant data Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve complaints and implement solutions Professional Development: Schedule and track annual requirements for staff, maintaining accurate records Attend departmental and ad hoc meetings as required PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to grasp, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Requirements REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Valid Virginia Driver’s License Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air-brake endorsement preferred (or willing to obtain within one year of employment) Five or more years of previous experience Proficient in computer systems (Windows/Google Drive) Proficient in using transportation management software Required to be/become CPR and First Aid Certified Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and external departments Experience in transportation management, preferably in a school setting Strong leadership and management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years
