NYC immigration and trial litigation law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Immigration Trial Attorney to lead and litigate complex immigration matters, including removal defense, Convention Against Torture (CAT) claims, and applications for withholding of removal. The attorney will primarily appear before the immigration courts at 26 Federal Plaza and other venues throughout New York and New Jersey. Key Responsibilities: · Represent clients in removal and deportation proceedings, including detained and non-detained cases. · Litigate asylum, withholding of removal, and CAT claims before Immigration Judges and the Board of Immigration Appeals. · Conduct merits hearings, master calendar hearings, bond hearings, and stay applications. · Draft persuasive legal briefs, motions, memoranda, and appeals to EOIR, BIA, and Federal Courts. · Conduct client and witness preparation, country conditions research, and expert coordination. · Supervise or collaborate with junior attorneys, legal assistants, and paralegals. · Maintain and manage a dynamic caseload across multiple jurisdictions. Qualifications: · J.D. or LLM from an ABA-accredited law school. · Bar admission in any U.S. state (New York or New Jersey preferred). · Minimum 5 years of direct immigration litigation experience. · Strong knowledge of INA, CAT, asylum law, and BIA/Federal court procedures. · Fluency in Spanish or another second language is highly desirable. · Excellent oral and written advocacy skills. · Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and handle high-volume dockets. Preferred Experience: · Prior work as an Assistant Chief Counsel (OCC), Legal Aid or NGO immigration litigator, or solo practitioner in immigration court. · Familiarity with detained removal defense and FOIA/litigation strategies. · Experience preparing expert witness affidavits and cross-examinations. PWDF Seeks Managing Attorney to Convert to Legal Director. PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES FOUNDATION (PWDF) is a small nonprofit agency located in San Francisco that focuses on equal access for individuals with mental and/or developmental disabilities. Applicants should look at website before applying in order to understand the scope of our work and submit a more meaningful cover letter. Compensation: $90,000 to $105,000 base salary for full-time (35 hours per week), DOE. Part-time (80%) will be considered; applicants who are interested in part-time should state so in cover letter. Salary for part-time will be pro-rated. Benefits include health and dental insurance, vacation hours, commuter checks, etc., after 90 days. 6 months probation. This is an on-site position. Duties: The MA will report to the Legal Director (LD) . (1) General Supervisory Attorney responsible for supervision and/or advice to staff attorneys and program manager. Must produce results within 12 months to continue in position. (2) Oversee disability rights issues, including for representation in federal court; social security/SSI disability, employment, education, health care, housing, and related subjects. Continue to develop collaborative programs with other agencies, and ensure the highest levels of quality and customer service by inspiring staff to perform at their peak. Current affairs and research requirement; responsible for keeping abreast of mental health and disability issues, e.g., keeping up to date in relevant health care articles and governmental agencies’ reports. Fiscal Management: Ensure that the organization’s growth is supported internally in key areas: technology, human resources, and attorney fees. Administrative Management: Maintain culture that fosters cooperation, open and frequent communications, and teamwork. Develop and foster an environment that maximizes employee growth and retention.
