JOB DESCRIPTION Teacher – Child Care Center Qualifications • Must be eighteen years of Age or older • Prior to employment, a fully qualified teacher shall have completed with passing grades, 12 core semester units which shall be in Child growth & development or human growth and development, child, family and community : and program/curriculum and 6 months experience working in a child care center. 6 months experience in a Child Care Center with children under the age of 5 years. A Partially qualified teacher shall have completed with passing grades at least six postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development at an accredited or approved college with at least 6 months of work experience in a licensed day-care center with children under the age of 5 years. A teacher hired with only six units shall complete, with passing grades, at least two units each semester until completion of 12 units. • The teacher shall have obtained a Child Development Associate Credentials with appropriate age endorsement & 6 months experience OR • Child development Associate Teacher Permit/ Teacher Permit/Master Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing & 6 months experience. • A teacher shall meet the requirements of Health and Safety regulations. • Must have maturity, flexibility (when needed) and must be very dependable. • Must be enthusiastic, self-confident, and interact positively with others. • The teacher must possess effective communication skills (both verbal & written) when working with parents and • Must be a positive role model for children, staff and parents. • The teacher must display understanding and effective use of positive child guidance practices. • The teacher must have the following abilities  To make decisions  To supervise and evaluate Teachers’ Aides  To handle emergency situations effectively  To assist with administrative functions including planning and record keeping  To plan and carry out activities which meet the developmental needs of children. Duties & Responsibilities • Care for children and supervise. • Follow a prescribed program of activity as per daily schedule. • Arrangement of and assistance in administering medication. • Storing and distribution of medication. • Maintenance of rules for the protection of the children under care. • Supervision of children’s schedules and activities for the protection of children. • Monitoring food intake or special diets. • Follow government prescribed child care guidelines. • Put the safety of the children as the foremost responsibility. • Familiar and able to administer CPR. • Complete a written report of injury however minor for any child under care when at school. Line of Supervision All teachers are ultimately responsible and answerable to the Director of the school. In an emergency or any situation requiring clarification all staff must contact the Director and licensee/administrator of the school immediately.
