Skilled Sewer at Sacred Geometrix (Arcata)
Hello, Would you like to be a part of a small team that creates organic clothing where warm hearts and warm garments collide for an epic work environment like no other? At Sacred Geometrix, we design and manufacture our own garments in house here at 905 6th st. Arcata. We have been in business for over 10 years and our business model operates on a made to order basis. We use industrial sewing machines to sew our garments and we screen print garments with our screen printing press. Recently business has slowed a bit and we’re down to just a seamstress and the founder, (me: Roy) but we are looking for a long term seamstress for our business. Our headquarters is a workshop and a small retail storefront that is currently only open by appointment. During the summer months we strive to vend at a few of the largest festivals throughout the west coast, it's a lot of work - but it's super fun too. Right now we’re looking for a qualified, like-minded individual with clear communication, sharp sewing skills and a healthy interest in what our mission is all about: “To enhance well being through expertly crafted organic clothing.” Job Description: Cutting and sewing garments as orders come in. Packing and shipping out orders customer service Qualifications: Prior experience with using sewing machines, preferably industrials. Strongly rooted in the Humboldt area (zero desire to leave our area) Personality Requirements: Growth Mindset Passion for art and creativity Warm and friendly Dedication to excellence and the pursuit of precision Interest in sustainability, biophilia and a healthy love of nature Energetic & positive attitude Additional Beneficial Skills to have for this Job: Knowledge of fabric types and advanced sewing techniques (ie. zippers, pockets, waistbands) Friendly Customer care expertise Screen printing Shopify / Etsy shop web management Our Ideal Employee: Someone who really enjoys the feeling of creating beautiful clothing with their hands. Someone who has a healthy sense of pride when a job is well done, and gets a sense of joy when a customer leaves a positive review - knowing that garment was made by them. Someone who is interested in staying with us for years. Someone who can remain loyal and kind through the ups and downs that are just part of a small business’s journey. Someone whose enjoyment at work is not entirely reliant on money, but also the quality of a unique work experience with people who love you and genuinely appreciate you being a part of the dream team. Someone who wants to help us grow into an even more epic clothing brand, and offer their creative ideas, input and collaborate as a valued teammate. Someone who is keen on details and will read this entire job offering, including being required to add "Hi Roy, can't wait to be a part of the team." in your application in the subject line or when you leave a message by phone. This job opportunity is unlike any other because: We are entrepreneurs who love what we do and demand a lot from ourselves but like to have fun while we work hard. Playing music or listening to podcasts and chatting while we work together in one room is a regular occurrence. We strongly believe a positive work environment is how great things happen. A quality team isn’t just being “professional” it’s about making the workplace feel good with meaningful interactions. We are looking for someone who is creative by nature and excited to learn the demands of this small business as it continues to grow. Sacred Geometrix History & about Our Products: This brand started from our inspiration of all the different styles of clothing seen at music festivals, and a love for the transcendental nature of sacred geometry. We create organic clothing that is comfortable, fun and beautiful. We are currently working on bringing more earth tone solid colors fabrics into our line and expanding our screen prints to expand our offerings for more lower priced garments. Bookstore All Around Help (North Philly)
This is a part time/day labor position that I'm hoping to get someone who wants to transition to full time. You have to know something about used books for the job. There aren't many used bookstores around, so if you don't have employment history, you may have spent a lot of time in thrift stores or trash picking to put together a nice library for yourself. I don't know how people learn about this business nowadays. The heart of the business is getting large donations of books, and going through each box, and deciding what to do with each book-whether to keep it and how much to charge. I'm looking for something in the responses that would let me know someone would be familiar with this. There's also a lot of hard work...lifting heavy boxes, carrying books upstairs...there are three flights of stairs. You also have to work efficiently. Some people take all day to put away a box of books, and some people do it in 15 minutes. The store is half set up, so there is still a lot of shelving, organizing, and alphabetizing. The store is on a busy street in North Philly, and if you're not used to that type of neighborhood, you won't last. The people are generally respectful and friendly, but the last person quit when some kids ran in and threw books around. If you work in retail you know that kind of thing happens from time to time, like aggressive panhandlers. This is about as far away from a corporate job as you can get...and some people try to bring a corporate mentality to my stores when they come here. I don't want to sell on line. I don't want to spend a lot of time on social media, although I do tiktoks for the store sometimes. I don't want to be sucked into some huge tech monopoly. I figured out a way to escape that life...the only trouble is you don't get to live that cushy yuppie lifestyle. I don't get a chance to respond to a lot of answers to this ad. The process of finding someone to work here isn't easy and it's time consuming. I just mention that because some people have been calling or stopping by the store to see if I saw their resume.
