Description

At Oura, our mission is to empower every person to own their inner potential. With our award-winning Oura Ring and app, we help over 2.5 million people turn insights about sleep, activity, and readiness into healthier, more balanced lives. We believe that starts from within — by creating a culture where our team feels supported, included, and inspired to do their best work. Our values guide how we show up for each other and our community every day. The Product Secrecy & Protection Lead will lead Oura’s global program to safeguard confidential intellectual property, prototypes, research environments, and pre-release product information. This high-impact manager-level individual contributor role reports to the Senior Director, Global Risk & Resilience (Legal) and focuses on embedding secrecy frameworks, managing prototype risks, and investigating leaks. This is a builder role: the right candidate will be a strategic thinker who can design scalable frameworks while also rolling up their sleeves to execute and deliver results. The role partners across the business to balance innovation with security requirements, directly shaping Oura’s secrecy culture while enabling growth. In doing so, your work will protect Oura’s most sensitive ideas while empowering our engineers, scientists, and designers to innovate with confidence. This is a remote US role. We have offices in San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles for those who prefer hybrid or office settings. Oura employees in other major cities (like Boston and New York) occasionally gather informally at local co-working locations. What you will do: Build and lead Oura’s product secrecy program, establishing scalable frameworks, playbooks, and hands-on solutions to protect confidential designs, prototypes, and pre-release assets across the product lifecycle. Develop and enforce prototype handling standards for secure distribution, storage, transport, usage, and disposal, including supporting labs and research environments with appropriate access and monitoring controls. Conduct risk assessments on secrecy and prototype security, developing mitigation strategies and governance (policies, standards, and procedures) aligned with trade secret law and contractual obligations. Partner with IT/Security to ensure secure digital handling of confidential product data and controlled access to systems and assets. Collaborate closely with engineering and scientific research teams to understand technical processes and workflows, integrating security measures without disrupting innovation. Define and report on key metrics to measure the effectiveness and business impact of secrecy and product security controls (e.g., incident response, risk reduction, time-to-market enablement). Requirements 12+ years of experience in product security, secrecy/IP protection, investigations, or related roles in consumer technology, wearables, or R&D-driven environments. Expertise in controlled lab design and prototype handling, with familiarity in physical security best practices and supporting systems (e.g., access control, surveillance, secure storage/transport). Proven ability to build and operate programs at both the strategic and tactical levels — drafting governance (policies, standards, procedures, playbooks) and executing hands-on when needed. Strong investigative and partnership skills, including experience coordinating with external firms, vendors, and agencies. Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust across technical and business teams and present effectively to all levels of the organization. Nice to Have  Expertise in trade secret law, confidentiality frameworks, and regulatory considerations. Strong understanding of scientific research and engineering environments, with the ability to translate technical requirements into practical security measures.
