Dunn Carney LLP is seeking a litigation associate with 4-6 years of experience handling employment litigation. This position will work on cases involving general civil litigation, insured and self-pay employment cases and management-side advice work. The preferred candidate will have experience in both state and federal litigation including drafting pleadings and client communications, drafting and arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, as well as experience in mediations, judicial settlement conferences, arbitrations and trials. We are seeking a self-starter who is actively engaged in their own career development and is dedicated to delivering excellent legal services. Basic Information: Paralegal/assistant needed for a sole practitioner’s family law firm in downtown Anchorage. This an in-person position of roughly 25 hours per week, Monday through Thursday with some Fridays. Rare overtime may be required during trial weeks or depending on deadlines. Prior office experience is required. As a solo practitioner, the two of us will do everything to help our clients and keep the firm efficiently running. The current employee of 6 ½ years will help train you and will be available to answer questions. Basic Skills/Duties: Candidate should be dependable, friendly, personable, and able to interact with all clients telephonically and in person. The ideal candidate must meet the following criteria: Excellent attendance and ability to multitask; Attention to detail; Great verbal and written communication skills through all mediums; Regularly use Adobe, Word, and Excel; and Be familiar with MyCase software or some similar billing software. Experience in family law cases is a plus, but not necessary. A reference instruction manual is available. If hired, you will already know or be willing to learn the following skills: Trial preparation such as preparing exhibits, trial binders, etc. (Covered in the manual, and many of the supplies are currently prepared for you); Work directly with clients to obtain documents for disclosures and discovery; Use MyCase software: track your own billable time and basic office billing; Assist in trial preparation; and Conduct legal research and prepare draft legal pleadings (many templates already exist).
