Automotive Mechanic & Service Writer – OEM Certified Repair Shop Job Type: Full-Time Industry: Automotive Repair & Maintenance *Position Summary* We are hiring a dual-role Automotive Mechanic & Service Writer to be the cornerstone of our new OEM Certified Auto Shop. This is a unique opportunity for the right person who enjoys both hands-on vehicle repair and direct customer interaction through writing repair orders and managing the service process. You’ll not only be the lead technician performing diagnostics and repairs, but also the service writer ensuring all repairs are properly documented, communicated, and completed to OEM-certified standards. We’re looking for someone with strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and above all, a positive attitude and team-oriented mindset to help us build a supportive and professional shop culture. In this role, you will also work closely with the shop owner to help grow and shape the business, making your input and initiative a vital part of our long-term success. Service Writer / Advisor Duties: -Write and manage accurate repair orders based on customer concerns, inspections, and diagnostics. -Communicate clearly with customers throughout the repair process, explaining needed services and updates. -Document parts, labor, and findings to meet warranty and OEM certification requirements. -Collaborate with administrative staff who handle scheduling/check-ins, ensuring smooth workflow and excellent client communication. -Maintain detailed records to support shop efficiency and customer trust. Mechanic / Technical Duties: -Diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle systems including brakes, engines, suspension, HVAC, and electrical. -Perform routine maintenance services (oil changes, tire rotations, fluid flushes, etc.). -Conduct multi-point inspections and confirm findings for repair order accuracy. -Use diagnostic equipment and tools to troubleshoot issues efficiently. -Follow OEM procedures and industry standards for all repairs and maintenance. -Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Qualifications: -5+ years of professional experience as an automotive mechanic, service writer, or ideally both. -Strong technical knowledge to ensure accurate repair documentation and confident communication with customers. -ASE certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain). -Experience with Mitchell1/ShopKey software -Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills. -Strong communication ability—able to explain technical information in a clear, customer-friendly way. -Positive attitude, dependable, and a true team player. -Valid driver’s license with clean driving record. -High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
