Structural Design Drafter (Ontario)

Key Responsibilities Will Include:
• Create and modify 2D drawings and 3D models for components, assemblies, and systems using AutoCAD and SolidWorks. This includes preparing general arrangement, manufacturing and installation drawings.
• Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and other design inputs to develop accurate drawings and documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and production teams to ensure design accuracy and feasibility.
• Maintain drawing and design documentation according to company standards.
• Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes and improvements.
• Perform tolerance analyses, material selections, and basic calculations when needed.
• Assist in developing bills of materials (BOMs) and manufacturing documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable industry and safety standards.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
• Internal Company communication with, project managers, engineering, purchasing and production
• External communication with clients and vendors
• Coordinating the development and approval of all projects specific design documents i.e. calculations, drawings, specifications, equipment and instrument lists.
• Coordinating all required design reviews, validations and developing test protocols.
• Coordinating the performance and approval of technical bid evaluations and approval of vendor data, as required
• Update project coordination software (TeamWorks)
• Update project progress checklist
• Inspect first articles and finished products in production
• Performing quality control checks on items ordered and fabricated.
• Work with sub-contractors to ensure design requirements are followed
• Prepare operations and maintenance manuals
Skills and Experience required:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in AutoCAD/Solid Works Drafting, General Layout of equipment, and Bill of Materials
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, CAD or related field
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
• An excellent grasp of engineering and design principles and an awareness of the environmental impact of design ideas
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• An appreciation for business demands and an understanding of manufacturing processes
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written
