About Us We are an independent eyewear brand expanding operations by setting up a finishing-only optical lab in Los Angeles. This lab will support our retail stores and e-commerce operations by edging, blocking, and finishing lenses into frames. We’re seeking an experienced optician with strong lab knowledge to help design, set up, and manage the lab workflow. Responsibilities Assist in the planning and setup of finishing lab (equipment selection, vendor relationships, layout, workflow). Operate, calibrate, and maintain finishing lab equipment (patternless edger, tracer/blocker, lensometer, tinting units if applicable). Perform edging, blocking, drilling, mounting, and quality inspections of lenses. Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for lab processes. Ensure compliance with ANSI standards and California regulations for optical dispensing. Troubleshoot machinery and coordinate service/maintenance with vendors. Maintain organized inventory of lenses, consumables, and lab supplies. Qualifications 2+ years experience as an optician or optical lab technician, with direct finishing/edging experience required. Strong understanding of optics, lens types, coatings, and ANSI tolerances. Experience in lab setup or workflow optimization is highly preferred. Hands-on ability to operate patternless edgers, blockers, and related lab tools. Licensed Dispensing Optician in California or ABO certification required Strong organizational skills; ability to work independently and build processes from scratch. Bonus Points Previous experience opening or managing an optical lab. Knowledge of both retail workflow and wholesale finishing processes. Familiarity with maintenance/troubleshooting of edgers and lab machines.
