BARISTA Madrona Bakery is seeking a talented barista to join our team. We are looking for folks who are passionate about coffee and can help us provide an elevated coffee program that compliments our technique driven pastry and bread offerings. This is a front of house customer facing position, so candidates must be: - Fluent in both written and spoken English - Have a strong knowledge of coffee and tea - Experience working as a barista working with specialty coffee (minimum one year, in a cafe or bakery) Latte art is a bonus! - Hold Servsafe certification WHO WE ARE: Madrona Bakery is a bakery & cafe, focused on laminated pastries, wood-fired breads, and specialty coffee. We pride ourselves on creating a community focused experience with exceptional service. JOB DESCRIPTION: The role of Barista is to deliver exceptional beverages and hospitality to every customer. The ideal candidate will be passionate about specialty coffee and be generous in sharing their knowledge with customers and their teammates. They will be comfortable working independently, are able to maintain their cool, and keep service running during rushes. Candidates must be open to learning our drink recipes and help us constantly improve our beverage offerings. What will your responsibilities be? Maintain mindful and detail-oriented hospitality Take orders; experience with Square POS system a plus Package and serve bakery items Follow recipes to prepare drinks to make high quality espresso, coffee, and tea beverages Understand milk steaming and drink building Understand coffee/espresso extraction principles and be able to “dial in” the expresso throughout the day Taste beverages to make sure their flavors are consistent throughout the day Keep your station and equipment clean, tidy, and aesthetically pleasing at all times Keep the bussing station in the dining room clean Help maintain a clean and pleasant dining area - wiping down surfaces, sweeping Work with management to ensure all coffee equipment is cleaned and serviced regularly Follow opening and closing procedures, including using locks and our alarm system Work in compliance with health department requirements Always be learning about coffee; and continue to improve your knowledge Have a good working knowledge of all the products we make Communicate kindly with customers and team members Support and work together with the rest of the team Be welcoming to everyone & be yourself Maintain a professional appearance with attire and hygiene standards Requirements: Previous coffee, hospitality, or food service experience. Minimum one year working with specialty coffee. Prepare coffee in a variety of brew methods (espresso, pour over and batch brewing) in a busy cafe. Demonstrate a passion for coffee and tea. Applicants must have flexible schedules, and the availability to work shifts, early mornings, evenings, public holidays, and weekends. Applicants must be open to learning our drink set up and willing to commit to 2-3 shifts per week. A six-month to one-year minimum commitment is preferred. Maintain a current Serv-Safe or equivalent Food handlers’ certificate. Ability to lift 40 Lbs. A&J King Artisan Bakers is looking for a combination dishwasher/prep person to work at our production facility in Salem. We're a family owned, award-winning, 19-year old bakery that is looking for reliable dishwashing help. JOB DUTIES: We value the work that our dishwashers do to contribute to the smooth operations of our production cycle. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and english speaking skills are needed. Our dish station is a large three bay setup. The dish washing is done by hand in our Powersoak sink which comes with a a booster heater to maintain hot water and the ability to agitate the water to aid in cleaning dishes. - Wash/rinse/sanitize, and dry baking pans, small wares, plastic transfer bins, and other equipment and return to their proper locations - Help with various cleaning/organizational tasks throughout the day - Help with various food prep tasks such as dicing butter, simple portioning, unwrapping cases of butter, potential simple bagging of products. -Tidy up, sweep, put the trashes out and general clean up at the end of shift. -Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time. -This is an independent job. Being able to keep pace with the dishes needing to be cleaned is important so that the bakery staff can continue to keep pace with their production tasks. DAYS/HOURS: Reliability is important. Shift needed: Thursday, Friday, Saturday 7am-11:30 am, 4.5 hour shifts, 3 shifts a week on a static schedule. About 13-15 hours a week. Applicants should be able to sub in or switch shifts on occasion. Ideally has the ability to occasionally sub in on our 10 am-6pm dish shift in some capacity. This shift is run solo on slower days of the week. COMPENSATION: All employees are paid a base wage (no less than minimum wage) and an additional bonus per paycheck which varies depending on how busy the bakery is. Slower times of year the extra per hour is a little less and in the busy season (summer and fall) it is higher. This job starts at $15.00/hour for the base wage. The bonus adds an additional $3.50 per hour on a yearly average to each employee's paycheck. So, for example, employees making $15.00 per hour are taking home around $18.50 per hour and up to $19.00 in the busy season.
