Summary / Objective The Brown Bag Community Coordinator and Driver is responsible for curating and delivering assorted healthy groceries to 3-5 Brown Bag Senior sites daily, Monday-Friday, across Alameda County. The Community Coordinator builds pallets for distribution at our central warehouse, consisting of 12-15 different food items for each assigned site—typically enough to feed 50-150 low-income seniors receiving the donated healthy groceries. At the partner site, the Coordinator oversees distribution of Brown Bag grocery donations to recipients, coordinating site volunteers and completing necessary inventory management processes to ensure effective Mercy Brown Bag Program (MBBP) operations. Essential Functions & Responsibilities · Fulfill grocery orders for East Bay MBBP senior recipients through various partner organizations, typically delivering in bulk or setting up farmers' market–style distributions at 2–5 sites per day. · Curate pallets with 12–15 food items per site, tailored to individual site preferences and aligned with USDA good food guidelines. · Load, unload, and operate 20-foot box trucks and mobile farmers market vehicles for daily grocery deliveries. · Deliver items to 2–5 sites per day, either in bulk or set up farmers market-style distributions. · Provide excellent customer service. coordinating with partner site staff and volunteers to efficiently set up points of distribution. · Collaborate with site coordinators to manage recipient tracking and maintain accurate inventory records. · Submit daily Proof of Delivery for each distribution site, including required inventory documentation, as directed by the MBBP Operations Manager and Director. Ensure all documents are properly signed and submitted to the Internal Operations Manager for compliance tracking. · Serve as an ambassador of Mercy Brown Bag, representing the organization professionally to recipients, volunteers, site coordinators, donors, sponsors, and other guests during site visits and tours. · Provide excellent customer service to all recipients and build strong, respectful relationships with partner sites, in collaboration with the External Operations Manager. · Oversee warehouse operations to ensure adherence to health and safety guidelines, including maintaining accurate logs (e.g., daily refrigerator and freezer temperature checks). · Record the weight, date, and temperature of all incoming food deliveries. · Prepare and maintain accurate documentation to support inventory management, including food bank receipts, delivery slips, and weigh/measure records for outgoing shipments. · Protect MBBP assets by ensuring proper handling of trucks, food, and property. Promptly report any damage or incidents to the appropriate manager. · Ensure all vehicles are equipped with required documentation and emergency equipment, such as vehicle registration, proof of insurance, accident report forms, reflectors, and fire extinguishers. · Immediately report all accidents and complete all necessary accident report forms with accurate and complete information. · Conduct and document daily vehicle inspections to comply with CHP and preventive maintenance requirements. Submit inspection forms daily to the Operations Manager. · Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in both the warehouse and vehicles, in accordance with regulations set by agencies such as the Alameda County Area Agency on Aging (AAA), Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB), Feeding America, FEMA, USDA, OSHA, and Mercy Retirement and Care Center (MRCC). · Assist with quarterly truck maintenance schedules. · Ensure compliance with all food safety protocols during storage, handling, and distribution. · Support general warehouse operations when not engaged in driving or delivery duties. · Assist the Director and Assistant Director with site inspections and visits from funders, sponsors, and donors. · Attend in-service training as assigned to stay current on policies, procedures, safety regulations, and professional development. · Participate in staff meetings and assist with special events, including the annual volunteer party, volunteer training sessions, and inventory days. · Promptly notify supervisors of any safety concerns, unexpected delays, recipient issues, or grievances. · Promote the Mission, Vision and Values of Transforming Age in all areas of responsibility, and demonstrate commitment to Culture of Excellence and strategic goals · Perform other duties as assigned Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities · Ability to pass all pre-employment screenings, including a Department of Defense (DOD) background check, physical exam (including TB test), functional capacity evaluation, and drug screening. · Must be at least 18 years old. · Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with partner site managers, volunteers, donors, and Food Bank staff. · Ability to navigate challenging conversations with external partners and volunteers, particularly around food safety or compliance, while maintaining professionalism and ensuring adherence to MBBP standards. · Proficient in using GPS and routing systems; familiarity with the Bay Area is preferred. · Basic math skills required to calculate portion allotments across varied sites (12–15 different food items per site). · Experience using manual or electric pallet jacks is preferred. · Mechanical aptitude to conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and identify necessary repairs or maintenance. · Comfortable working in varying weather conditions. · Effective English communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak clearly. · Strong work ethic with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation. · Service-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. · Sensitivity to, and understanding of, the needs of older adults and the aging process. · Effective time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Required Education & Experience · Must have a valid California Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clean, insurable driving record. · Capable of passing a Class B Driver Education course if required by the assigned truck. · Previous experience as a driver; comfortable driving 14 to 20 ft. commercial trucks. · Forklift operation experience is a plus. · Knowledge of food safety standards and safe practices within a warehouse environment. Physical Requirements: · Bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, and stepping in and out of vehicles. · Walking and standing for extended periods. · Ability to drive for extended periods (typically no more than one hour, but possibly 3X/day) · Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis.
