**BARTENDER OPEN CALL** TUESDAY, OCTOBER, 7, 2025 The Benjamin Hotel 125 E 50th street 12pm - 1pm *only* The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, light meals, and snacks to guests in a courteous and efficient manner. The role ensures compliance with hotel standards, maintains bar cleanliness and inventory, and performs cashiering duties. The Bartender plays a key role in delivering Sonesta's mission of providing exceptional service to both guests and colleagues. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hospitality and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary work environment. Shape Education and Experience High school diploma or GED preferred, culinary degree a plus. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Previous experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel culinary operation strongly preferred Qualifications and Skills Minimum age 21 years old. 2 years’ experience as a bartender or barback. Have at least 2 years of experience in a bar, restaurant, or hospitality setting (as a bartender, barback, or similar role). Hold a valid Food Handling Certificate (or be willing to obtain one within 30 days of hire). Alcohol awareness certification (such as TIPS® or ServSafe Alcohol). Communicate clearly and courteously in English with guests, coworkers, and supervisors. Legibly record orders and transactions. Knowledge of a second language is a plus. Requirements Perform basic math for cash handling and drink preparation. Operate a computer and point-of-sale (POS) system. Remain on your feet for most of an 8 hour shift or more if required. Ability to stand 8–10 hours per shift. Safely lift and move items from 25 pounds up to 50 pounds (such as cases of beverages or kegs). Carry trays or supplies as needed in the bar and service areas. Stay organized, detail-oriented, and attentive in fast-paced environments. Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Exercise good judgment, especially when determining if a guest is intoxicated. Shape Essential Job Functions A. Opening Duties Review daily opening checklist. Stock and set up bar (bottles, glassware, garnishes, snacks, ice, paper goods). Prepare mixes, check equipment, and ensure refrigeration is at proper temperatures. Complete opening inventory sheet and requisition supplies. Ensure bar area is clean, organized, and ready for service. B. Service Duties Greet guests warmly and take beverage/food orders. Provide recommendations and upsell when appropriate. Accurately input orders into the POS system. Prepare and serve drinks per recipes and hotel standards. Deliver light food items and beverages to guests. Serve wine, cocktails, champagne, espresso, and cappuccino when ordered. Respond promptly to guest needs and requests. C. Guest Relations Maintain positive guest interactions and anticipate needs. Handle complaints professionally to ensure satisfaction. Answer the bar phone promptly and courteously. Be knowledgeable about hotel services and local attractions. D. Compliance & Cash Handling Follow all state liquor laws and hotel alcohol service policies. Maintain assigned bank and handle all cashiering duties accurately. Secure cash and credit transactions according to hotel procedures. Close guest checks in the POS system immediately upon payment. Replace ashtrays, remove soiled wares, and reset guest areas quickly. F. Closing Duties Properly store reusable goods and secure alcohol storage areas. Count and secure bank, submit cashier reports, and finalize POS closing. Restock bar for next shift as needed. Shape Secondary Functions Assist with weekly/monthly inventories. We are looking for a part time setup/delivery specialist for our breakfast and lunch catering events and who is available weekdays from early morning (4am). * Must own your own 4-dooror vehicle (SUV preferred). Do NOT apply if you do not own your own vehicle. * Must have at least 1 year prior food or catering experience (references required). * Must have a valid license and photo id. * Must be able to lift 50 pounds. * Must be friendly and have customer oriented manners at all times. * Attention to detail is a must. We will be judging your detail very closely. Details: * Start time is usually around 4-5 am (sometimes earlier depending on event start time) * End time is usually around 3-4 (sometimes 1 hour later depending on event end time) * We will pay for all tolls and prorated rate for gas expenses during work hours. * Complimentary meal or meal stipend will be offered Responsibilities: * Go over with the team for the day's event(s) you will be involved * Pack your crates with all chafers, boxed food, drinks, and plating/utensils * Head to your breakfast and setup our chafers, boxed food and beverages at the event location. * Come directly back to the kitchen to prep for lunch and assist with packing duties. * Head out for lunch and once lunch is complete, head back to the event for cleanup/pickup. * Come back to the kitchen, clean and store all event non disposables.
