Straight Truck Driver | $22 per Hour | Columbus, OH (Columbus)

Position Summary: The Heavy Equipment Operator for CWS Fence & Guardrail is responsible for operation of heavy equipment (primarily a post pounder, but also excavators, skid steers and rollers) related to the installation of guardrails, and bridge rail, fence and related site work on public roads and private sites. The position requires active labor, handling materials and working as part of the guardrail installation crew on the construction site throughout the day, as directed by a Crew Supervisor. Daily activities include operating heavy equipment, pounding posts, digging holes, building pads, spreading gravel, using power tools, assembling guardrails, bridge rail and fence. The Operator must have the ability to lift 100 lbs., stay on their feet all day, and be able to follow instructions and adapt to constantly changing situations in a fast-paced highway work zone environment. The work schedule is seasonal, typically running from March through December, or until the ground freezes/thaws. During the season, a 40 - 60-hour work week will be performed Monday through Friday, rain or shine, with occasional night or Saturday work if required. A night work bonus will be paid for any required night work and many jobs are subject to prevailing wage. Essential Job Functions: - Safely drive and operate heavy equipment and conduct other work within highway lane closures and other busy job sites - Lay out guardrail end unit pads, establish grade, and track and record installed quantities - Load / unload materials and equipment, build pads, spread gravel, dig and set posts, assemble guardrail, and bridge rails - Work at the direction of the Crew Supervisor, including moving and relocating equipment, handling materials, and performing general duties associated with the project Experience/Qualifications: - Current CDL-A or CDL-B license and medical card - Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience operating heavy equipment - 3-5 years of experience in highway construction or similar role is preferred - Self-starter with sound judgment, positive attitude, takes initiative, and adapts to changing work environment Working Conditions/Physical Demands: - Day shift with overtime - Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 100 pounds as required throughout the workday - Outdoor environment with exposure to year-round weather conditions - Bending, squatting, climbing, standing for long periods of time - Ability to grasp, discern color, be capable of using tools and equipment properly Compensation: - Competitive base wage commensurate with experience. - Night work bonuses when applicable. - Company paid health insurance - Company paid dental insurance - Paid time off - 401(k) with Company Match - Career growth Easy commute from: - New London, NH - Sunapee, NH - Sutton, NH - Warner, NH - Boscawen, NH - Concord, NH - Franklin, NH
