Required Education and Experience: *Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and *Must be 18 years of age or older by date of hire. Additional Eligibility Requirements: *Working knowledge of basic building operation, repairs, equipment used and cleaning buildings. *Basic knowledge of the practices and techniques of landscape maintenance, tree care, and basic landscape construction techniques. *Knowledge of safety practices and procedures for this line of work. *Must be honest and truthful in all tasks and responsibilities. *Possession of valid driver's license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)). *Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment. *Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City. Available Schedule: *Tuesday - Thursday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM Compensation & Information on Benefits: The anticipated hiring range for the Parks Laborer position is $18.36 (first step) to $19.28 or $20.24 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Three steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps. INCLUDED BENEFITS: *Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) retirement contributions paid by employer for part-time, year-round positions. *Paid sick leave - one (1) hour accrued for every 30 hours worked. *Access to the City's fully equipped fitness center 24/7 *A well-equipped gym featuring weightlifting benches, dumbbells, cardio machines, and a motivational wall mural. Examples of Job Duties: *Essential Functions of the Position: *Clean, stock, open and close Park restrooms and gates. Removes trash and ground litter in City of Medford Parks, Right of Ways, and facility areas. *May be required to drive a City vehicle to various park locations. *Assists park staff in a variety of daily tasks or special projects. *Ability to perform labor safely in all types of weather. *Ability to prepare and read simple reports and field diagrams. *Ability to work with minimum supervision and/or work with others in daily tasks. *Ability to follow oral, written, and drawn instructions. *Ability to relate to the public in a positive manner. *Adhere to safety practices and standards when performing all duties. Other Functions of the Position: *Operates handheld gas-powered equipment to include string trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, and chain saws. *Operates riding mowers and tractors. *Perform manual landscape maintenance to include pruning, weeding, and planting. *Performs equipment maintenance. *Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation. *Handles job stress and interact effectively with others in the workplace. *Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect. *Is an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication. *Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. *Demonstrates regular, reliable, and punctual attendance. Work independently to clean all common areas, including but not limited to, workout areas, pool(s), laundry facilities, leasing office, elevators, clubhouse, mailroom, and public restrooms. Maintain cleanliness of common areas by cleaning windows, washing and waxing hard surface flooring, vacuuming and washing carpets and rugs, cleaning tile grout, etc. OPERATIONS Ensure adequate inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, notifying the supervisor when supplies are needed. CUSTOMER SERVICE & COMMUNICATION Listen and respond to the needs of residents and staff members, escalating communication as necessary to a supervisor.
