This is a hands-on position requiring strong expertise skills. The Equipment Operator will be responsible for completing work assignments as directed by the Foreman. This is a position that is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled landscape construction tasks. Education/Experience/Licenses -A minimum of three full years of landscape, equipment operator, general construction experience -Must display proficiency in use of landscape related equipment -Must be skilled in all Equipment Operator basic repair and techniques of the equipment Supervisory Responsibilities None Work Environment -Ability to work in extreme conditions-temperatures may exceed 100 Degrees Fahrenheit -Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended period of time -In this role you may frequently stand, walk, climb or crouch on narrow or slippery surfaces that may have a steep incline -Heavy work. We do events in towns such as Newington, Hartford, Windsor, Wethersfield, West Hartford, Bloomfield, Rocky Hill, Easy Granby, East Hartford, Simsbury, Bridgeport and Shelton. We provide trucks, equipment, and staff to manage the collection of the waste, characterize it, pack it in proper UN rate containers, and load it to ship into permitted trucks. LOCATIONS VARY EVERY WEEKEND. New staff would initially be responsible for helping move material with forklift or pallet jack and help load the truck. Operators are also expected to assist with the job by safely unloading waste from citizens' cars and safely transporting to a sortation area occupied by highly trained staff and, in addition, helping setup and breakdown the event. Forklift Operators are expected to stay later than most staff to help load the truck after the job. Events take place on Saturdays and some Sundays. Hours vary but are generally 6:30am to 3pm. Pay begins at $250 for the day and can grow up to $350 per day with additional training and responsibilities. If you have no credentials then you will begin at $200 until you demonstrate you can operate a forklift to our standard. If you cannot operate a forklift the Project Manager will determine if he will invite you back at that pay grade. You can qualify to start at $250 if you have one of the following: • Proof of OSHA Forklift training and experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Science from an accredited college/university located in the United States • Or a CURRENT 40 Hour HAZWOPER training certificate. Must provide copy of any certificates or degrees and official transcripts/ CURRENT 40 Hour HAZWOPER training certificate to qualify. New staff would be required to complete an online company training seminar before working the event. The company provides an extra $25 in the first paycheck as compensation for the training. No experience in the Environmental field is necessary. Best asset for candidates is a strong work ethic. The company values and rewards hard work, prompt attendance, and teamwork. Those who do not show up on time, work hard, and get along well with others will not be invited back to work regardless of past experience or credentials.
