What Youâll Bring (Qualifications)Â
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.Â
7+ years of progressive experience in Risk Management, Safety and Security field. Â
2+ years of directing and implementing security and safety policies and procedures on campus.Â
Demonstrated ability to manages the work activities of campus security and  patrol units.Â
Must poses a valid CDL or ID. Physical Requirements:Â
Purpose of the Role:Â
The Director of Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for the plans and programs that protect lives and property, prevent accidents and incidents, and preserve the learning environment and business operations of the University. Reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Operating Officer (DCOO) & CIO, the Director of Enterprise Risk Management provides executive-level leadership to Enterprise Risk Management and Insurance, Emergency Management and Business Continuity, Security, and Environmental Health and Safety. Â

This position will focus on the Universityâs Enterprise Risk Management, Safety, and Security by focusing on hazard-based risk identification, mitigation, and controls. The Director of Enterprise Risk Management will also provide support and expertise to University, local, state, and federal partners.Â

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and InsuranceÂ
Provide subject matter expertise and consultation related to insurance and risk management services.Â
Manage the certificate of insurance request process to facilitate third-party receipt of the universityâs evidence of insurance and receipt of incoming certificates of insurance.Â
Verify compliance with insurance requirements in University contracts and agreements, ensuring appropriate coverage and limits, additional insured language, and effective dates.Â
Emergency Management and Business ContinuityÂ
Chair to the Crisis Response Team (CRT). Leads the CRT to develop, implement and assess an effective Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and effective teamwork among the members of the CRT.Â
Conducts, supervises, and evaluates campus emergency response drills, and implementation of Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the CRT.Â
Collaborates with the President and other senior leadership to create a climate of safety and security throughout the University.Â
Develops, monitors, and evaluates a comprehensive EOP to be administered University-wide to ensure appropriate emergency preparedness and response from all students, faculty, and staff.Â
SecurityÂ
Develop, monitor, and evaluate the University-wide security program utilizing contracted security services to ensure the protection of SMU assets, staff, faculty, students, and visitors.Â
Develops, enforces, and reviews University security policies and procedures and ensures the staff, students, and faculty are informed of said policies and procedures. Â
Oversees and implements the Universityâs access control and camera systems.Â
Annually prepares and submits The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.Â
Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S)Â
In coordination with contracted EH&S vendor, develops, maintains, and communicates health and safety policies and procedures.Â
Work collaboratively with the Office of People and Culture and other departments to ensure the effective implementation of health and safety programs.Â
Perform periodic inspections of workplace facilities to detect fire and life safety hazards and conditions. Make recommendations for corrective measures.Â
Perform job safety analysis and recommend safety equipment, and safe work procedures, and communicate with departments to achieve safety excellence.Â
Skills and AbilitiesÂ
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Â
Knowledge of CA Building Codes and Fire Life Safety Codes. Â
Demonstrates flexibility and good judgment when adjusting to changing job demands. Â
Skills in developing strong community relations as well as building bridges between the campus community and the surrounding community. Â
Ability to work effectively with the culture of the University, with sensitivity to issues of diversity. Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond under pressure. Â
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, combined with strong leadership and organizational skills which will enable him/her to work effectively with all encountered individuals, groups or organizations. Â
