Many did not ever consider that it's all about learning to listen and sing at the same time. Who knew? How fun is that? Does your throat contract when you sing higher or louder? It's so uncomfortable, but I've got a fix for that too. And you may not realize that you have a much bigger range than you thought. In fact, much of how the voice works is not common knowledge. Unlike a piano or a banjo, it's an instrument you can't see or touch. But an experienced teacher can lead you to a new comfort zone with your voice, where singing is easier, feels better, and sounds better than you thought it could. You don't need to set goals that seem out of reach. I can teach you little by little to discover the wonderful instrument located in your own actual body. You may be surprised to find that you can sing songs you enjoy, whether it's in the car, in a karaoke bar, or onstage with your own band. I enjoy introducing singers to the mechanics of vocal sound production, and I accompany on piano while my students sing the songs they love (sounding better than they imagined). My name is Stephanie Bruce and I moved to Portland just over a year ago from the San Francisco Bay Area where I taught music for over 30 years. After enjoying a long career as a professional singer, songwriter, choir director, and music teacher, I know a lot about music, about vocal technique, and about the profound satisfaction of raising your voice in song.
