All interested and qualified individuals are encouraged to apply. Electricians service, maintain, and install various types of electrical work which may include traffic signals, building electrical systems, alarms, and communication equipment in buildings and facilities. Although Electricians are assigned to the Public Works Department, work is done in all County buildings including jails, hospitals, juvenile hall, clinics, social services buildings, libraries, homeless shelters, sheriff stations, mental health wards, etc. The Contra County Public Works Department (CCCPWD) is responsible for the maintenance and operation of over 650 miles of roads, 79 miles of streams and channels, and over 150 County buildings. CCCPWD services include parks and recreation, sandbag distribution, flood control, road and facilities maintenance, and storm water management. CCCPWD operates two airports, Buchanan Field Airport in Concord, and Byron Airport in Byron. What you will typically be responsible for: Performing electrical work in a safe manner Constructing, installing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining a variety of electrical installations, systems, traffic signals, or equipment Planning layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on specifications and codes Connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components Testing electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of systems Cleaning, repairing, and maintaining electrical equipment Interacting effectively with co-workers and members of a crew, operating department representatives, County employees, and the public Create and submit project estimate Minimum Qualifications License Required: Possession of a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License will be accepted during the application process. Experience: Either 1) Completion of an apprenticeship as Electrician in the building trades construction field and at least one (1) year of full-time or its equivalent journey-level experience in commercial or industrial electrical maintenance work; OR 2) Five (5) years of full-time or its equivalent experience in commercial or industrial electrical maintenance work, one (1) year of which must have been at the journey level. Other Requirement: Applicants must be able to obtain the Detention Facility Clearance to work in the detention facilities
