Northern Hardwoods, a producer of world-wide premium hardwoods, is hiring full-time Boiler & Kiln Watchmen to join their team in Atlantic Mine, Michigan. The ideal person for this position is someone who is dependable, safety-minded, and thrives in an environment where no two shifts are exactly alike. Whether it’s testing boiler chemistry, assisting with kiln operations, or ensuring our fire and security systems are in top shape, your role helps us deliver top-quality results every day. WHAT WE OFFER. • STARTING WAGE $16.50 - $17.00 per hour. • PLUS $1,000 sign-on bonus. • PLUS a monthly production bonus. • BENEFITS. This is a full-time position with a rotating swing shift schedule, including afternoons, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Proper attendance and reliability are a must. You must be able to work: • Week 1: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM (Afternoons) • Week 2: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM (Nights) • Shifts rotate weekly; you’ll always know your schedule in advance. WHAT YOU WILL DO. • Operate wood and gas boilers to maintain consistent steam pressure. • Perform routine maintenance like greasing bearings, checking belts, and removing ash. • Test water chemistry and apply treatment within specifications. • Assist with kiln startup, conditioning, and monitoring. • Operate equipment such as forklifts, loaders, and lifts (including safety checks). • Perform fire, electrical, and security watches—especially during off-hours. • Help with seasonal snow removal and sawmill chip handling. • Monitor fire suppression systems and document inspections. • Follow all safety regulations and procedures.
