Better than avererage diag skills are preferred, and smog repair license bumps you to the top of the payscale. Smog techs get a better starting pay. *COMPENSATION VARIES BASED ON EXPERIENCE* (ASE Certifications / Master Technician status, good Smog Repair license). GUARANTEED $35.00/hr. to start up to $50 before production bonus is added on. With the production bonus and normal Monday through Friday hours, my techs average mid to high $50's per hour. A hundred thousand dollars income is a reasonable expectation for a qualified smog tecch.
