Cal Farley's Boys Ranch is a nonprofit child and family service organization that provides residential family-style living in a rural setting for boys and girls in need of a safe, home-like environment. We are currently seeking House Parents to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing direct care services and creating a home-like environment for children in need. The House Parent plays an instrumental role in creating a positive and nurturing environment for children who need a safe place to call home. As a House Parent you will work directly with children to provide support, guidance, and positive reinforcement. You will help children with daily tasks and activities, and you will be responsible for creating a sense of family within your home. Responsibilities Live in your assigned cottage, helping to care for and provide for up to eight children. Teach and lead cottage rules and daily routines. Provide encouragement, guidance, and counseling to residents. Participate in educational and recreational activities with the youth. Ensure that all children’s physical needs (food, shelter, etc.) are met. Help children build self-esteem and gain skills to overcome difficult situations. Act as a positive role model to youth by demonstrating appropriate behaviors and attitudes towards others. Requirements A high school diploma or equivalent. Experience in child care or related field is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a team. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be 21 or older. Enriching Lives provides classes at no charge to potential Family Home Providers to prepare them to be caregivers in their own home. Family Home Providers are responsible for providing care and supervision to 1-2 adults with developmental disabilities such as Intellectual Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Autism, or Traumatic Brain Injury. More information about developmental disabilities is available on our website. Individuals may also have additional physical or mental health support needs. Individual’s ages range from 18-65 and their needs vary from high functioning, fairly independent Individuals to those who have total physical care needs or behavior support needs. Most Individuals participate in a school or day program during the day, although Family Home Providers are still responsible for being available during the day if needed. You will receive support from Enriching Lives to assist you in providing services in your own home such as initial and continuing education, the support of a multidisciplinary team, 24 hour on call professional support, and overnight relief support. Enriching Lives staff will visit you and the Individual regularly to provide support and ensure that the Individual’s goals are being met. At a minimum, you must have 1-2 spare bedrooms, a safe and pleasant living environment, reliable transportation, a high school diploma or GED and a designated backup Family Home Provider. All adult members of the household and frequent visitors to the home must have a clear criminal history and a DMV record without any major violations. Enriching Lives is highly committed to making successful matches and placements in the home of people who become Family Home Providers with our agency. While there are never guarantees for placements, our success rate is extremely high. We honestly evaluate you and only move forward in certifying you if we are confident that you will receive a match and be successful in our program. Every year, we divert an average 740,000 pounds of resources from the landfill through our Deconstruction and Redistribution programs. Deconstruction is a sustainable alternative to demolition where our skilled crews hand-disassemble buildings to salvage the material for reuse. These building materials, along with salvaged furniture, appliances, hardware, and more are sold at our Redistribution Centers for 40-90% off retail value. Position Responsibilities: - Utilize Lucas Mill Dedicated Slabber DSM23 and chainsaw to cut salvaged tree logs into slabs - De-nail salvaged lumber. - Use proper stacking and drying techniques to prevent damage to milled slabs. - Ensure proper documentation and inventory of milled slabs and processed lumber. - Work with salvaged tree logs and prepare them for reuse by learning the proper techniques for milling, stacking, and drying - Develop our Tree Reclamation Program. - Facilitate and coordinate transport of milled slabs and processed lumber to Redistribution Center. - Maintain a clean and organized yard - Maintain tools and equipment, including sharpening saw blades - Manage and direct crew members - Research, set up, and ongoing management of solar kiln. - Delegate tasks to crew members and keep crew motivated and on task - Outreach to arborists, landscapers, and City & County/State departments for tree donations. - Work in collaboration with Redistribution staff. - Ensure all duties of material processing department are being done when not milling or performing outreach. - Participate in the recruitment of crew members and manage training for all new hires. Qualifications: - Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract. - Some construction background and experience a plus, but will train on use of chainsaw and mill - Experience using hand and power tools - Ability to work in all outdoor elements and conditions - Attention to detail and safety and excellent communication skills - Commitment to reducing waste and providing the community with an affordable building material resource - Ability to work as a collaborative team member - Enjoy physically demanding work, including but not limited to, the ability to perform repetitive tasks and conduct repeated movement like bending, standing, walking, prying, stooping, carrying, and other related tasks. - Ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel toed and soled boots, gloves, ear protection, and respirator when required Physical requirements: - Position requires manipulating 60+lbs throughout the work day by utilizing tools and proper equipment. - Ability to perform intense and repetitive physical work including bending, lifting & moving material, standing, walking.
