ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR POSITION
All People’s School, located in Berkeley, CA, is seeking a warm, skillful, relationship oriented, strengths-based, organized, creative person who is dedicated to Early Childhood education and the Reggio Emilia approach to join our team of Associate Directors for our Pixar Children’s School (PCS) site.
This position is nested in a team of Associate Directors who work in partnership with each other and with the Executive Director of All People’s School. Each Associate Director has specific responsibilities in the ecosystem of the organization. The particular responsibilities of this position emphasize operations - staffing coordination, facilities management, event production, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of PCS.
This role includes administration of the early childhood education program at All People's School@PCS, and requires a commitment to continue to grow into the role and learn the school culture, practices and protocols. This Associate Director position, in partnership with the Leadership team, has an essential role in steering the school’s evolution for years to come. The position reports to the Executive Director of All People’s School, and works in collaboration with the leadership team, teachers, parents and children at PCS.
The PCS school site currently has 68 children and is licensed for 90. It has 7 classrooms, currently using 6, with children ages 5 mos - 5 years, 19 staff, and operates a full-day program throughout the calendar year. Pixar Children’s School serves the community, as well as families who are employees of Pixar Studios - the current ratio of Pixar employee families and broader community members is about half and half.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
Work in collaboration with other Associate Directors, Executive Director, Pedagogy Team, and Coaching Program.
Oversee the personnel files, including all items needed for Community Care licensing and accreditation
Design and manage staff schedules, office hours and weekly meetings in partnership with leadership team
Support and contribute to professional development with the leadership team, including coordination with outside consultants when needed
Assist and coordinate teacher hiring, orientation, training
Supervise teaching staff and provide support for ongoing professional learning for individual teachers, and the staff as a whole
Coordinate PCS parent involvement and families’ relationship with the school
Facilitate parent communication - including coordination of regular updates from Staff and from leadership
Assist teachers with tasks as needed (e.g. guidance on setting up field trips, portfolios, parent meetings, curriculum nights, parent teacher conferences)
Step into program skillfully, as needed for coverage, and for observation and relationship building
Attend Pedagogy Team meeting weekly
Meet with Executive Director and Director weekly
Use Workspeed to send in repair requests to Wareham, email Pixar Hsiao/Patty
Interface with Pixar HR for repairs, security badges for new staff and parents
Conduct fire drills, lockdowns and smoke day coordination
Work varied hours to support staffing and coverage
Manage email for enrollment and work with Leadership Team members who are primary on enrollment for PCS as needed with the possibility of becoming a primary enrollment coordinator for PCS in future years
Candidates can have the following minimum requirements:
BA in Early Childhood Education/Child Development
5+ years of experience working with children ages Birth-5
5 + years of leadership experience in Center based Infant Toddler and Preschool program, preferably a Director position
Strong ECE leadership capacities including: self regulation, a strength based approach to working with people, a growth mindset (ongoing personal and professional growth), and skillful communication skills
Extensive knowledge of Play-based education, Social Emotional Learning, RIE, Culturally Responsive care and education, Emergent Curriculum, Reggio Emilia Inspired Approach, Social Justice curriculum, and democratic learning communities

Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: 8 hour shift, 4 days week - varied schedule depending on needs
Salary: $75,000-$83,000 per year
