Job Title: Sustainability and Energy Coordinator Open Date: June 17, 2025 Close Date: Open Until Filled – First Review will be July 1, 2025 Salary: $6,849 - $7,747/month plus benefits RECRUITMENT DESCRIPTION: The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a full-time Sustainability and Energy Coordinator in the Energy Services Department. This position will guide and support development, implementation, and reporting of sustainability programs and initiatives through collaborative work across City utilities, departments, and services. The Sustainability & Energy Coordinator assists with the development and implementation of energy/low carbon intensity strategies to meet municipal operations and community targets. The primary duties of this position are to support the needs of the City’s electric and natural gas utilities and sustainability actions across all departments and services. The Coordinator will work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders including engineers, project managers, operations, planners, contractors, regulators, educators, and communications professionals, etc. to evaluate proposed projects for regulatory applicability; reviewing and analyzing project scope, work methods, and other related potential environmental and emissions impacts. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor’s Degree from four (4) year college or university in an applicable field, such as economics, public policy, law, business administration, planning, environmental policy, or environmental science • Three (3) years of professional experience in a field related to utilities, sustainability, public administration, or similar. • Please note: An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: • Valid State driver's license or have the ability to obtain one by time of hire; must maintain an insurable driving record • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • This is a leadership position that will be expected to perform the necessary duties with limited supervision. • Thorough working knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of modern public administration and energy services applicable to a municipal setting; familiarity with the energy industry’s regulatory aspects; thorough knowledge of applicable City policies, laws, and regulations affecting Department activities; working knowledge of modern records management techniques and ability to accurately record and maintain records. • Thorough working knowledge of spreadsheet applications, such as Excel, to accurately develop and maintain various reports and records; experience in modeling and forecasting in the utility sector. • Proficient in safely operating the listed tools and equipment and possess the ability to learn new tools and technology quickly as required. • Ability to establish and maintain courteous, cooperative, and collaborative working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, Commission and Council members; other agencies and officials, and the public; considerable ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner, verbally and in writing, appropriate for the intended audience; ability to handle conflict and stressful situations. • Routinely handle matters requiring sensitivity or confidentiality with good judgment. • Thorough knowledge of the laws, policies, and methods related to purchasing and service contracts applicable to a municipal setting, including request for quotes, request for qualifications, and request for proposal. • Broad knowledge of communications and multi-media promotional efforts such as the City’s website, social media, television, and radio. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, policies, and procedures; ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public in a clear, concise manner. • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as sales tax, discounts, and percentages; ability to understand and apply economic analysis to determine present worth, future value, and annual cash flow, as well as regression analysis to determine forecasts.
