Staff also have opportunities to volunteer for committees, and are known in the community for their work as board members and volunteers for charities and non-profits Position Summary: An Estate Planning Paralegal provides legal support to attorneys and can be expected to work on trusts and estates, probate, trust administration, irrevocable trusts, estate tax returns, and gift tax returns. This position calls for high quality communication skills, exceptional judgment, and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Job Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Draft documents such as correspondence, status reports, pleadings, court forms, summaries, memoranda, tax returns, asset spreadsheets, accountings, and other documents as requested. 2. Locate documents, data, and records through filing and other research. 3. Review, analyze, organize, index and maintain files. 4. Provide support to assigned attorneys including acting as a point of contact for clients and managing correspondence with clients. Observe confidentiality of attorney-client relationship. 5. Maintain client and general electronic files. 6. Assist attorney to prepare for client meetings. Skills and Abilities: To perform the essential functions of this position, an individual must demonstrate the following competencies: • Knowledge of Federal estate, Oregon, Washington, and tax returns, gift tax returns, and various types of agreements and contracts. • Possess excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading abilities. Effectively prioritize tasks and manage time. • Exercise good judgment and pay exceptional attention to detail. • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. • Ability to critically analyze and problem solve legal and technological issues. • Skilled in Word formatting, Adobe, Excel, redline/track changes, styles, and cross-referencing within documents. Minimum Qualifications: • Three or more years of full-time paralegal experience for a company, court, or law office. • Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation system sufficient to preform basic legal research. • Knowledge of legal research tools. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Familiarity with computer systems such as document management systems, billing software, and legal databases. • Ability to consistently deliver high quality of work under pressure. Preferred Qualifications: • Certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association. • National or local paralegal certification (RP, CRP, OCP).
