🚨 NOW HIRING: Full-Time Day Shift Custodians (2 Open Positions) Rockingham County Public Schools | Harrisonburg, VA & Surrounding Areas 🕔 Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM – 2:30 PM 🚀 Start Date: IMMEDIATE OPENINGS — Get Hired Today, Start Tomorrow! 💵 Pay: Competitive pay + stable schedule + full-time hours 📍 Locations: Various school sites within Rockingham County Position Summary: We are actively seeking TWO reliable, hard-working custodians to join our facilities team for daylight shift coverage at one of our Rockingham County Public Schools. If you take pride in cleanliness, have a great work ethic, and want to play a vital behind-the-scenes role in the success and safety of our schools, we want you on our team! This is a hands-on, physically active role responsible for ensuring that our buildings are clean, safe, welcoming, and fully operational each day for students, staff, and visitors. What You’ll Do: 🧹 Daily Cleaning & Upkeep Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, and sanitize classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and offices Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building Clean windows, mirrors, whiteboards, and fixtures Restock paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and other janitorial supplies Spot-clean carpets and sanitize high-touch areas 🛠️ Basic Maintenance & Repairs Replace lightbulbs, air filters, and minor plumbing fixtures 🪑 Event & Classroom Support Set up and break down for meetings, assemblies, and special school events Move furniture, unload deliveries, and support special requests from teachers and staff Unlock and secure school buildings before and after hours when needed 🌳 Outdoor Groundskeeping Maintain clean entryways, walkways, and building perimeters Shovel/remove snow, apply salt, and keep pathways safe in winter Mow grass, trim shrubs, tend flower beds, and maintain outdoor facilities ⚠️ Health & Safety Response Respond quickly to spills, messes, restroom issues, or student accidents Promote a safe, hazard-free environment Wear appropriate PPE and handle cleaning chemicals safely Report any damage or hazards immediately to the Head Custodian or school administration What You Bring: A strong work ethic – You take initiative and follow through Attention to detail – Clean spaces matter! Good communication skills – You're courteous, professional, and responsive Team player mindset – You support staff, teachers, and students with pride Physical stamina – You’re able to lift 25–75 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred Prior custodial or maintenance experience is a plus (but not required!) Project Summary: SCOPE OF WORK: Mowing and Edging During the growing season (March thru November) the grass will be mowed, edged and blown clean weekly per attached calendar and color-coded map. All grass clippings and green waste will be removed on-going and placed in the Center’s 40 yard dumpster. During the slow growing season (November thru February) the grass areas throughout the Center will be mowed as needed. As the grass stops growing this time of year the contractor will spend more time pruning trees, shrubs, and removing leaves and yard debris. Weeds in all common areas and flower beds will be weed eaten weekly and debris removed. The order of mowing, edging, blowing, and pruning will start at Meadowview Rd. and progress south to the fence at Heavy Equipment. Area’s 1 and 2 are higher priority and will need to be maintained on a weekly schedule. The areas walkways, courtyards, outdoor, and common areas must be blown clear of debris. Area’s 3 and 4 are lower priority and will be maintained on a quarterly basis (every 3 month’s). Trees will be pruned around buildings 932, 933, 934, 935, 700, 710, 720, 500, 600, 200, an in front of center management on a regular schedule, 3 times per year (spring, midsummer, and Fall). This pruning will trim branches away buildings, remove any dead or low hanging branches, and disposing of the debris in the center’s 40 yard dumpster.
