Tonkon Torp LLP, a leading full-service law firm in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Information Governance to lead and continuously improve our enterprise-wide approach to information governance. This high-impact leadership role oversees and coordinates the work of our Records, Conflicts, and Docketing teams, ensuring firm-wide compliance, efficiency, and operational excellence. This is a key leadership transition for the firm, as our current Director will be retiring at the end of the year. The onboarding process will include an intentional overlap and hands-on training period to ensure deep familiarity with our systems, policies, and team workflows—including critical tools like Elite 3E, iManage, and ProLaw. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical fluency and leadership capabilities to step into the role with confidence and continuity. This is primarily an in-office position with flexibility for hybrid work following the initial onboarding period. Key Responsibilities: • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for the Records, Conflicts, and Docketing departments, ensuring high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement • Oversee and refine firm-wide policies and procedures governing information lifecycle management, conflicts clearance, docketing compliance, and data privacy • Ensure optimal configuration and utilization of Elite 3E, iManage, and ProLaw, partnering with IT and legal teams to enhance workflows and data integrity • Act as the firm’s subject matter expert and escalation point for system issues, process questions, or cross-departmental coordination related to information governance • Implement key performance indicators (KPIs) and service-level standards for each functional area, and ensure staff training, coaching, and performance management supports those goals • Lead internal evaluations of existing processes and identify improvement opportunities through new tools, automation, or policy updates • Maintain vendor relationships and oversee outside providers of records management, docketing, or technology services • Participate in firm-wide planning and budget processes, providing guidance on technology investments and compliance-related resource needs • Stay current on legal industry trends, regulatory developments, and evolving best practices in law firm information governance Ideal Candidate Qualifications: • Minimum 15 years of experience in information governance, records management, conflicts, or docketing, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role • Extensive hands-on experience with Elite 3E & iManage is required—must be fluent in system administration, user support, and process optimization within these tools; experience with ProLaw and other legal technologies a plus • Strong knowledge of legal records retention, conflict-check protocols, docketing procedures, and client confidentiality standards • Proven ability to implement firm-wide policies and manage change across diverse groups • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and manage across multiple operational functions • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills • Experience managing departmental budgets and vendor relationships • Relevant certifications (IGP, CRM, CIP) strongly preferred We offer: • Competitive salary, $110,000 to $130,000 DOE • Generous Paid Time Off policy and 10 paid holidays • Medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, EAP, and more • Retirement contribution • Commuter benefits • Tuition reimbursement Tonkon Torp offers a collegial, collaborative work environment.
