DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Our exciting and fast-paced downtown Oakland law firm is looking for an Associate Attorney with at least two years of civil litigation experience to represent clients in legal matters. We are looking for both full time and part time applicants. Partnership opportunities are available. The duties of the Associate Attorney are to represent clients in legal matters either independently or under the supervision of one or more shareholders or a senior associate, including: • Provides effective legal consultation, services and advice to clients. • Represents clients in state and federal court and agency litigation/proceedings, at a level consistent with his or her level of experience. • Prepares all legal documents necessary for the effective representation of clients. Including, but not limited to, memoranda, legal briefs, opinion letters, and/or general correspondence. • Maintains excellent working knowledge of substantive law, state and federal judicial systems, including local court rules and procedures. • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, decision-makers, consultants and counsel. • Ability to work under strenuous and stressful conditions and be able to effectively respond to client, office, and court needs on short notice when requested. • Some travel required, occasionally for extended periods of time. • Ability to effectively research and analyze legal issues and formulate creative responses. After a comprehensive training program, under the direction of the Managing Attorney, you will be: Working with a team of case managers answering their questions, making sure clients are getting the medical treatment they need, making sure all avenues of insurance and recovery are explored, and making sure cases are moving towards the demand phase. Communicating with clients at least every 30-90 days. Reviewing cases to determine the case value, identifying all potential defendants, determining if there is evidence that needs to be preserved and if any experts and/or investigators should be hired. Determining the general strategy of the case depending on the facts. Reviewing and revising demand packages which would include reviewing and summarizing medical records and other documents. Reviewing and revising drafts of complaints, public entity claim forms, case management conference statements, minors’ compromise petitions, and other documents. Attend court hearings as needed, including case management conferences and minors’ compromise hearings. Some supervision of team members.
