SST designs and manufactures small-scale electrical components used around the world. These products include vacuum feedthroughs, hermetic connectors, and related accessories for vacuum systems. Our parts are found in many types of industrial, medical, and research facilities, and you will work with technologies used on equipment like energy storage systems, MRI machines, and particle accelerators. We have even sent parts to Mars! NASA's Mars Insight Mission uses components made right here in Watervliet, NY. Position Summary The Maintenance Technician works in a team environment performing equipment repair, installations, and preventative maintenance according to service, quality, and safety standards. Responsible for general upkeep of manufacturing equipment and facility while maintaining a clean workspace. May also assist with various facility projects, including providing input on layouts and/or working with or assisting contractors to complete complex projects/repairs. Duties and Responsibilities Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical and other physical structures, including furnace vacuum systems, with or without schematic or manual. Offers solution(s) to appropriate personnel. Troubleshoot challenging manufacturing equipment or facility issues, recommending temporary and/or permanent solutions to appropriate personnel. Perform facility and environmental health and safety (EHS) related maintenance tasks such as building and replacing work-stations, shelving, lightbulbs, painting, simple plumbing, identification of and/or marking, taping of safety items/areas, etc. Follows and supports all safety protocols, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times for tasks and in areas where mandatory. Performs scheduled internal and external preventative maintenance tasks, such as mechanical maintenance items, changing fluids (e.g. surfactants, coolants, lubricants), filters, etc. Records production, repair, and maintenance tasks in appropriate computer system. Ensures tools and equipment are maintained and repaired. May train and mentor incoming department personnel and maintenance associates on processes and procedures.  Recognizes and performs unassigned tasks (e.g. general cleanliness and other 5S tasks, procures supplies, disposes of empty containers, etc.). Requirements Associate’s degree in industrial technologies or other technical degree required. Advanced degree, training, or certification(s) preferred. Minimum of two years of experience working in a manufacturing environment required. Intermediate knowledge of vacuum systems, machine repair, electrical, pipefitting, plumbing, and general maintenance. Ability to receive and provide verbal and written instruction. Team skills, including ability to work independently, in teams, and collaborate with others. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Access or related software. Basic understanding of AutoCAD and SolidWorks or related software. Demonstrated math, computer, and time-management skills. Ability to self-direct work, completing projects within defined time frames. Ability to use hand tools and power tools. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, building plans, and repair manuals. Familiar with applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Ability to adapt to changing demands.
