1973 Ford MAVERICK with 5.0L V8 - $3,800 (Bremerton)

address6995 Old Military Rd NE, Bremerton, WA 98311, USA

Description

Original '73 Maverick, except for the engine swap. Original engine was the big inline 4.2L 6 cyl engine: 240 cubic inches. That engine was swapped for a 1968 Ford 302 cubic inch (5.0L) engine. This early 302 engine was pre-emission control and has higher compression ratio and horsepower than the later year 302 engines. Holley 4 bbl carb on aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold. HEI ignition. Headman headers. For auto trans, the inline 6 cyl used the same C4 a/t as the 302 did and it is retained. The custom exhaust system from the fitted 'Y' pipe back has yet to be completed but the parts are included. I have started the engine, it fired instantly and it sounded great, but haven't driven the car. I had it stored in a rural area and would sporadically run the engine with open-headers exhaust but until the exhaust system is completed I will fire it up for a serious buyer only because it is in a neighborhood now and I am not going to aggravate or alienate my neighbors. The 302 engine is probably no heavier in its present state than the big 4.2L 6 cyl engine was, but has considerably more power than the 240 c.i. had. The big 240 c.i. 6 cyl had the stronger 5-lug axles than the 170 c.i. 6 cyl cars got. The a/t (column-shift) linkage is a little wonky, probably the V8 location of the trans differs a bit from the inline 6. We have installed Lokar linkage but it should have a floor-shift rather than column shift. Some parts to convert to floor-shift are included. It also needs front seats desperately. The shift linkage and exhaust system are really the only loose ends to driving it A rare bare-bones lightweight '70 compact car with V8 power. Collector plates included. Serious inquiries only please. It is in nice shape for a 50+ year-old car but please be realistic; not delusional. For this price you are not purchasing a concours class collector car. It is a hotrod project car with a high fun factor, not a show car. There is minimal rust for the age of the car and it looks great from 20 ft away. The car has not been raced or abused and has not been driven yet since the V8 has been installed. I did pull the valve covers to see if there was oil sludge or caking and it looked really good in there and I doubt the 302 has a lot of miles on it. The car has been stored for many years and because of this the brakes should be inspected before use. I would just replace the wheel cylinders and master cylinder prior to driving. Those hydraulic parts are cheap and I'd personally want peace of mind by renewing them. Trailer, or tow dolly, to transport it. The driveshaft is presently removed for towing, as not to damage the transmission. A brand new rear U-joint is included for you to install when you put it on the road. Sold as-is. If I keep working on it, for example finishing the exhaust system, I will post a new ad with a new price. But I'd rather sell it now and make a dent in some of my other. projects. The tires should be replaced just because it has been sitting for a long time; standard practice.
