The Epicurean Trader, San Francisco’s premier gourmet food, wine, and spirits market, is seeking a talented Manager for their Gourmet Retail Market. We are looking for self-motivated people who love to work with others and who people love interacting with. This is a service position, so candidates should be: - Eloquent and fluent in English - Strong knowledge of cheese, food, wine, and/or spirits - Experience as a Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager required - A positive, ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to take on any tasks required to provide customers with the best service possible and present the store in the best way possible WHO WE ARE: The Epicurean Trader is a specialty food, wine, and spirits store dedicated entirely to craft products: craft spirits; small production wines; farmstead cheeses and charcuterie; small batch chocolates, coffees, teas, and pantry items. We hand-select artisan products from across America for their dedication to the craft, incredible flavors and fusions, natural ingredients, and beautiful packaging. We pride ourselves on creating an inviting atmosphere with exceptional service. POSITION SUMMARY: This location features both a retail market, and cafe & wine bar. This role is specifically for the retail market side. The Gourmet Market Manager is responsible for all retail market operations, maintaining customer service and overseeing the operation of the store to ensure maximum sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, and expense control, staff training and management, and management of operating costs and shrinkage. This is the perfect position for an innovative, results-oriented professional who can demonstrate leadership potential and can guide their team to provide exceptional customer service experiences. This role is a member of the store leadership team and is responsible for input on all key-holder store operations including overseeing store opening and closing duties, food and beverage production, customer service, store merchandising, team development, training and discipline, and more. The keys to success in this position are a love for food and service, great organizational and time management skills, the ability to delegate, and a positive proactive personality! ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: - Ensuring that each Guest receives outstanding customer service by providing a friendly environment; this includes greeting and acknowledging every Guest, maintaining outstanding standards, and having solid product knowledge - Ensuring appropriate merchandise stock levels, merchandise adjacencies and presentations, signing and assortment in all departments; ensuring selling floor is adequately stocked - Ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures through regular store management and staff meetings, store walk-through and audits, etc. - Assist with training and develop store management in all aspects of the business; direct and monitor training and development for all store personnel. Will directly manage 2-3 direct reports - Manage store inventory through successful operation of the POS and Inventory Management systems, as well as strong communication with Warehouse Operations - Troubleshoot and execute well-reasoned, timely decisions - Develop deep knowledge of product and help coordinate in-store tastings and other education opportunities for both customers and team to improve customer service and propel product movement - Maintain proper sanitation and food handling procedures - Oversee store’s opening and closing procedures to ensure the security and safety of the business and its staff MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - 4+ years previous retail experience, with 2+ years in an assistant management role, ideally in specialty food or grocery - Passion for specialty food and beverage - Excellent customer service skills and the ability to diffuse tense situations - Strong understanding of overall store retail operations - Demonstrated ability to manage employees with varying shifts and responsibilities - Excellent in-person and digital communication skills - Good organizational skills with paper, products, and space - Time management, multi-tasking, and follow-through skills - A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail - Good basic math skills (add and subtract accurately without paper or calculator) - Must consistently have regular, dependable attendance; and be able to satisfactorily pass a background check. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to apply common sense, with the understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form is required. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to interact well with others; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; make sound decisions; provide partnership to employees from diverse backgrounds in a dynamic and sometimes stressful work environment, while maintaining positive working relationships in a small team environment.
