Weld Lead (2nd Shift)

POSITION SUMMARY The department lead will function as a working technical resource in the assigned department and will have some supervisory responsibilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Weld preparation, welding, fabrication and weld finishing operations to manufacture product to engineering drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction. Use of various types of precision measuring instruments. Assist department manager with coordination, management and monitoring of production schedules and production performance. Assist with certification training and documentation review. Troubleshoot technical challenges identified by department personnel. Assists engineers with process development for new products and process improvement for existing products. Assists engineers with design and review of welding fixtures and tooling as required for new jobs. Identifies and implements continuous improvement opportunities. Works along with other manufacturing departments, quality control, and engineering to solve problems with fabrications, prints, routers and/or work instructions. Other duties as assigned by the area supervisor. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES At least ten years of related experience required. High school diploma or GED required. Ability to obtain welding certifications required per GSM and customer procedures. Able to interpret engineering drawings, including weld symbology. Knowledge of wire and filler material applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and some exotic materials. Working knowledge of fixturing and weld setup parameters. Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments. Expert level knowledge of military specification and AWS specifications. Can create tight tolerance weldments and straighten as required. Can safely operate various hand tools, saws, grinders, and overhead cranes. Understands all internal weld procedures and welding-related operational procedures. Strong leadership skills. Excellent human interaction skills Expert in all weld process used by GSM (GTA, GMA & SMA). Nondestructive Testing (NDT) knowledge preferred.
