Description

Are you committed to making a major change in your life and dedicate yourself to making some positive change in the larger world? Have you ever wondered what your Purpose in Life might be? I hosted a writers residence for many years and tried to get my roommates to write their life story. This could be a three-month task, writing a couple of hours twice a week. We all know our life story from our earliest memory to today. That is easy to write as it is history that you know well. What you would like to do in the next five to ten years are your goals. This may be a bit more difficult to write. I suggest you then write the next fifty years of your life…all fiction for now. And then you write the last week of your life and your last day on Earth, looking back upon your long life, and what you would expect to be remembered for. My past roommates were unwilling to do this, though it is the best writing exercise anyone could do. I did this forty years ago and it help me arrive where I am today, a few decades from my inevitable end. One of my favorite books from the last century is Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. It is about an old gorilla at the end of his amazing life in captivity, putting an ad in a local paper: "Teacher seeks student." A man, not sure what to do with his life, answered the ad, and got more than he expected. We live in the most amazing and precarious time in human history. If you have some ideas on how you would like to improve the world, I would like to hear from you. I have a big dream to build an Extinction Education Foundation on Alcatraz. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/crg/d/san-francisco-need-2d-or-3d-artist-to/7863697948.html If you are looking for a home where you can live your creative dream, this may be the place for you. I will have my best room available soon. It is fully furnished. The Residence is two blocks from Dolores Park, two blocks from Market Street, and four blocks from the Castro District. There is public transit going in every direction 100 feet away at the corner. And it is possible to get a Residential Parking sticker if you own a car. I am a building contractor, born in 1950. I personally remodeled the entire flat. It has a luxurious bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub, with heated toilet seat, and a towel warmer. There is a second toilet/reading room, a large kitchen, a light-well deck, and a lovely sunny fern garden. The common living room is set up as a library for quiet study, reading, an occasional writers' group, or daily yoga practice. I am gay, a dreamer, an idealist, a devout atheist, and an old gorilla;-). I believe we need to be the Guardians of this extraordinary planet we share with a zillion other amazing creatures. I live a quiet life and get up every morning at about 3:30 a.m., take a cold shower, get a cup of coffee, read some inspirational material, and then write for three hours while my roommates sleep. I am semiretired and am constantly improving the flat. I LOVE Christmas and Halloween and can get carried away decoration the hallway and common rooms. Some have compared living here to living in a library, where reading and writing are sacred. What I offer to that rare person is a unique place to realize your creative dream. I host Thursday night Dinners, twice a month, where we talk about our week and share our creative efforts. My social life flourishes outside of the residence, and so should yours. I have had roommates who like to party, love to cook, and have endless house guests. This is NOT what we are looking for. I provide a quiet respite from the outside world. If you believe this could be your ideal San Francisco home, please call me, and tell me why. We are open to people of any age, sex, race, or sexual preference. You will pay the first and last month's rent and a security deposit. Utilities are included. When you move in I will make changes to the room to personalize for you. One person per room. No pets please Please call and tell me why this would be your ideal next San Francisco home. I look forward to meeting you. show contact info Jim Reid
