RARE & ORIGINAL - 78rpm Record Catalogue These 78rpm catalogues virtually contain every commercial recording Victor, Columbia, etc. issued between the listed dates. They are totally original – date back 100 plus years. Available, gratis, from the many record shops throughout the country, older issues were discarded as new ones regularly appeared, hence, their rarity. Their contents contain invaluable information of what was out there, when it was out there and by whom. The strength of this collection is its value as a research vehicle – information not easily available anywhere else. During the teens and 1920’s, the majority of these record catalogues ran several hundred pages each and contained a section (in pink paper for Victor) for classical recordings. When Radio was commercially introduced in 1925, and later when the Depression hit, the number of pages and offerings were greatly reduced with top recording stars losing contracts and the very record industry in danger of bankruptcy (major companies diversified into radio and other free music venues for survival). Printed on semi-gloss paper (Victor, Columbia and few others) the interiors held well and are in excellent condition while defects occasionally appear on the covers, spine, etc. (see photos for these concerns). I grade this research collection as excellent to excellent plus. At list’s end, I also include a reproduction collection or super rare catalogue and issues from the earliest days of phonograph history.
