Job Responsibilities Typical duties include: Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, emissions systems, and electrical systems. Performing preventive maintenance (PM) on entire fleets. Using diagnostic software and tools. Maintaining DOT and OSHA compliance. Leading or mentoring junior mechanics. Coordinating with fleet managers for scheduling and downtime reduction. Typical Duties Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrains, transmissions, and braking systems Perform preventative maintenance (oil, filters, fluids, belts, etc.) Troubleshoot complex electrical and hydraulic systems Fabricate or weld parts when needed Operate diagnostic software and service manuals Keep records of repairs, parts used, and service intervals Ensure safety compliance (OSHA, DOT, MSHA depending on industry) 📚 Skills Needed Strong mechanical and technical knowledge Hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting Welding and fabrication Reading schematics/blueprints Computerized diagnostic tools Problem solving and adaptability (field breakdowns often need quick solutions)
